Re: Instrument cluster lighting
If you pull the dash to change the headlight switch take the cluster apart then paint the inside of the shell white and add the LED's. I've done this on my 64 and you can actually see the complete speedo! The only downfall is there is no dimming or very little change with the LED's. Now with that, I...

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit calebration
This doesn't matter what model it is. Unhook the sending unit, turn the key on. The gauge should go to or past the full mark. Now ground the wire from the car, turn the key on. The gauge should go all the way to empty and maybe a little past. Make sure you have a GOOD ground outside of the car, use ...

Re: More Muffler Chatter
I think you need to define how you want your engine to sound. I have found out that not all mufflers are as quiet as the stock muffler. I purchased several different mufflers then set them on the car and they ALL sounded the same! They were reasonably quiet but only half as quiet as stock. You can s...

Re: Removing Torsion Bars For Trunk
There is a fair amount of pressure on the bars. You didn't say for an early or late as they are a bit different but similar. You have to hold the lid all the way up as this relieves some of the tension. On the early they are somewhat exposed and I think I used a 1/2" piece of pipe. I've done th...

No, that is a cylinder that I sent to Jeremiah. NOT a Clark's cylinder.

Re: WTB: Cylinder Jug for a 1960 bored for 60 at 3.37
I have an answer for those that may have been wondering why the different size cylinders and being full finned. As I found out being full finned does not automatically mean a 1960 140 cu in engine! So the first picture is a true 1960 cylinder, notice that it has extra lugs at the top of the cylinder...

Re: When Valves Don't Measure Up Part 2
I've pulled heads apart where the grooves in the valve for the keeper were almost worn through. Is that common? That would make the valve spring installed height keep getting bigger until it dropped. Yikes! That might be a problem. Was this on valves with the multiple grooves or the single groove o...

I've pulled heads apart where the grooves in the valve for the keeper were almost worn through. Is that common? That would make the valve spring installed height keep getting bigger until it dropped. I have seen that but only in a few I have taken apart. Obviously the keepers and the valve get toss...

Yup, What Jim said! No, it is not the same as the chamber sizes are different for the different displacement engines. Hmmm, is that what Jim just said???? LOL

When Valves Don't Measure Up Part 2
I have some pictures of some different brand of valves and I have the same issue. I think I stated before that I reset the collar on my tool and I also recalibrated it. It is within .001" on average, close enough for spring work. So with that I was putting together another set of heads and diff...

Re: When Valves Don't Measure Up!
I've used a straight edge and calipers for the longest time. Doing similar to what you mentioned. I have found that when this tool work it can be very fast to get the numbers. The longest time is doing the math and then figuring out what combination of shims gives me the most correct number.

Re: When Valves Don't Measure Up!
OK, I have to re-evaluate what this post says in the beginning. If you look closely at my pictures of my gauge tool, look at how it is in the pocket. I think it was bottoming out before in the raised area around the spring pocket. Since that time, today I readjusted the brass position and recalibrat...

Re: When Valves Don't Measure Up!
SNIP Keepers and retainers -- that is disconcerting, but I'm not surprised nowadays. I have had issues with the new rocker nuts being either too tight or too loose. I sort them and swap them until all have the same tension on all the rocker studs. Why would that be disconcerting? They come from dif...

Re: When Valves Don't Measure Up!
That was interesting, BUT I've always wondered about valve seat height variation affecting the height of the valve stem to head spring seat, and of course spring height. So are you saying the valve seat to valve stem retainer groove varies among the valves, or are you saying depth of the valve seat...
