Re: EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening
My Lakewood that I drive doesn't have one. If you look on the right side frame rail near the front of the engine bay there will be a rubber plug with 2 holes in it, it will be oblong and the holes will be angled for 5/16" lines. If you do not have that then someone put a PG into a manual car a...

OK, you mention Frankin-Wagon so in essence you have no idea of what you have to start with. Unless you are ultimately familiar with the Corvair and/or wagon, I owned one for over 25 years, You just might not know what is supposed to be. It looks like that some things are correct but the rear wheel ...

Re: Carter YH Issues
Guys look, On any car you want a newer vented anti-surge cap! For sure you do not want a NON vented cap. and the old vented caps would let fuel spill out of the filler neck if you turned hard right with a fullish tank. The vented anti surge caps are NOT one way, they just hold 1-2 psi pressure that ...

Re: Brake Shoes
OK, all you had to do was use a round file where the top pin rests on the shoe. The new shoes you get will be the same thing.

Re: EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening
Do you have any shims between the trans and the mount bar? Most cars have a 1/8" to 3/8" stack of shims for rear wheel toe alignment. This actually moves the engine rearward to set the toe in/out of the rear wheels but also gives clearance on the axles. Have you checked any of that? Also d...

I do have a medium sized cooler that does fit. It has to go long ways to sit in the well solid. I'll look at it today and get the size and/or dimensions.

Re: LM Front Speaker Replacement options?
Back in the day I would get the 4x6 8 ohm speakers from Radio Shack and they sounded really good. I never had a radio fail because of that.

The trunk can be an ice chest! I have done this before where I filled the trunk with ice and then filled with the drink of your choice or variety!

Re: Brake Shoes
I think cheaper shoes are better for us because we want a soft compound and more expensive shoes are often hard for longer wearing. Jim Brandberg Isanti, MN CorvairRepair.com The current batch of brake shoes seem to me to be a carbon metailc base. I think they stop very well and seem to last a long...

Re: Cylinder Fixture
If you are trying to ridge ream I have always just opened my vise up and grab lightly on the bottom flat fin. Tight enough to hold what you are doing but not enough to permanently distort the cylinder. Then when I hone I put the cylinder in my vise again but I clamp on the small flat fins at the stu...

Re: uni syn
The ONLY thing the Uni-Syn tool measures is air flow. You only want to do idle speed to match the floater from side to side. The mixture may change where the ball floats but only because of idle speed and flowing more air but do not do that.
Idle speed only!

Re: Tips for Corvan roofs
Since you mentioned Corvan in your title that is what I'm going to talk about. The center of any van roof is not super strong, you can easily deform it if you crawl, walk or even pit something heavy on it. You can see the ribs on the inside but the real strength is close to the edge of the roof by t...

I took a quick look over on the other forum but I couldn't find it but then I didn't sign in either. Here are the pictures I posted of the mods to make a primary shoe. I just used a hacksaw being careful not to hit to hard on the base material. I then ust used my sharp putty knife to tap off the bon...

I wanted to come but with having to fix the race car and a customer coming here from out of town next week, I just can't make it.
I have been there before and always a good time to be had.

Re: Brake Shoes
You probably will have to have them order the shoes but you should be able to get them local. What I have found with the new shoes is you may have to shorten the primary shoe a little and then that either a drill bit or a round file and open up the park brake hole and the self adjuster cup hole. All...
