I suppose so. :)
My initial question was actually how realistic it was to race an unusually prepped Corvair; if it was actually possible to class such a thing.
We got a little sidetracked. :)

Re: 69 140 Coupe
I don't like how this shifter is always under my right knee. Have others experienced this and come up with solutions? Bend the shift lever? Smaller steering wheel?

Re: Road Racing a Modified Corvair
Power = heat makes perfect sense. Something like 80% of the power that an IC engine makes is actually just wasted as heat. Put more power to the ground, make more heat. Fair enough. Misting is an option but not one I've seen on an air cooled engine; I've seen misters and foggers in front of the radi...

Re: Road Racing a Modified Corvair
What about with intercooling and a big external oil cooler. Air cooled Porsche do it, though admittedly with a more sophisticated oiling system.

Road Racing a Modified Corvair
I see videos of people road racing V8 Corvairs now and again. I'm not sure what road race classes those cars might fit into. What about a somewhat highly modified turbo corvair? Like something triported with port fuel injection and electronic fuel injection? Autocross is good for cars like this. You...

Re: Turbo vs 4 Carb
I always parked my turbo in the AZ summers. I didn't have a working head temp gauge though. But honestly, with such an old engine, and feeding it a hot intake charge, and with AZ's 110 F+ summer temps, it's just not worth the wear and tear on the engine or the risk of overheating and catastrophic fa...

Re: corvair crankcase vent
Is the oil foamy or just foam collecting inside the vent? I used to get a little foam at the top of the filler neck of rotary motors when I liven in Oregon. It was humid and chilly so the foam was caused by condensate inside the tube. It wasn't generally dangerous to the engine and not an indicator ...

Re: Crank pully
The swap is easy in a car. Not sure about in a van. I was able to just drain the oil, lower the back of the engine, remove the rear motor mount bracket and go for it. Did the whole swap with the motor sitting on a jack with some wood cribbing to prevent damage to the oil pan. Sent from my SM-G900V u...

Re: RE: Re: 69 140 Coupe
Hi, John. I can't say at this point that you missed out on much. The car has been a bit of a mess. Not unmanageable but not the sweet deal I was hoping for. So I found a bad bearing in #1. My hope right now is that the crank is still good. I won't have more time till Wednesday or later though. Furth...

Re: 69 140 Coupe
Glad to see you are making progress. Yes the Flamethrower coils have had an on and off quality problem for a while now. For a non turbo engine I've had good luck with the BWD E30 coil. Same primary impedance as the stock coil. I don't recommend the BWD E30P as it's a new "budget" coil wit...

Re: 69 140 Coupe
And... this motor has a bad rod bearing. I guess I'm about done with used motors. The oil looked too sparkly when I changed it last and the motor was making a faint ticking noise the last couple times I drive the car. The ticking would get louder or go away completely depending on throttle input. Al...
