I use the same duplicolor stuff as the guys above with good luck. None of it has flaked off or been damaged by oil or heat. It cleans up easily. Started working on the brakes. I first adjusted both wheel bearings. The right one was a bit loose. The left was fine. Both appeared to have been packed recently so I didn't repack them. No change. In my experience, a bad accelerator pump will cause the carb to cough and backfire when you try to start giving it more throttle. Is that what's happening? Your description made it sound like it was acting up at idle.

The set screw on my Holley carb adapter linkage keeps loosening, causing me to get stuck in traffic. Fun!
