Electrical
Hello forum, I need any tips about why my van won't start, obviously electrical. Starts up when the electrical expert jumps it with his box. Would not start w/ jumpers from another car battery. Is this the protocol: start it with jumper box again then detach the pos cable from battery and if it does...

Engine sound and smoking
Update from couple months ago: took her to MEL's and he checked it out. Had a cracked piston right where the noise was. Had to pay for that fix. I was the one driving around with no muffler. Put it back on. Now I have electrical problem - it has always taken a little while when I turn the ignition t...

Re: Engine sound and smoking
Thanks all you guys. The tow guy said it could be a ring. I don't know a whole lot about engines but am enjoying learning. Another thing I didn't mention was it sounds normal at idle but when you hit throttle it has the louder sound. I called my mechanic and he says he doesn't think it's anything to...

Re: Engine sound and smoking
Good thoughtful replies. The smoke was dark I think. The tow truck driver sniffed the oil from the dipstick and thought it smelled like gas.

Engine sound and smoking
Hi, I have a Corvan with a recently (last summer) installed 110 overhauled engine. I have driven it quite a bit, from his shop in Santa Clara CA to Modesto where i live and around town for small trips. He said there would be a break in period and to take it easy for about 500 miles then go for tune ...

Center cap screws snapped off inside wheel
Not Corvair specific but I dumbly tried taking off caps without spraying screws with penetrating fluid first and several snapped off with only little nubs left. What's the best way to remove them or do I have to rebore and thread the holes? The holes are probably about 3 mm. IMG_0215.JPG IMG_0213.JP...

Hauling an FC Van
General question- what's the most cost effective way for me to haul a van some 900 miles? If I have the back wheels\tires functioning could I hitch it up to a motorhome?
I don't have a truck or trailer

1961 Van - Rough
I bought this poor rusted van in Oakland and became a Raiders fan over night. The roof is rotted at the seam really badly and where the rear body part that the rear doors latch to are rotted out horribly. You can practically pull the roof off. Somehow the doors still close and last to it despite bei...
