Re: Where does this bolt go?
I should have provided more details. I removed the drive train in my 64 Monza to get my differential and transmission rebuilt and I noticed this when I was cleaning all the hardware. It is a grade 8 bolt, and the smooth tip makes me wonder.

Where does this bolt go?
I think it is from the transmission mount. It needs to be replaced, anyone know where I can get one?

Re: Corvair Mechanic in San Diego
I thought it was residue as well. I disassembled the carrier where the spider gears are and it was heavily coated with the stuff. That, the lack of any shims and the 65 pinion shaft lead me to believe it was patched up to hide something.

Re: Corvair Mechanic in San Diego
I finally got the drive train in my 64 Monza vert pulled and found the throwout bearing snout broken off, and both pinion shaft bearing rollers in the bottom of the case. I also have what looks like anti-seize compound in the oil and inside the differential carrier. Is anti-seized a trick people use...

Re: Corvair Mechanic in San Diego
Ever since I bought it in November there has been a vibration when in neutral and it would go away when I press the clutch.
Now it vibrates severely and makes loud noises even at low speeds.

Does anyone know a Corvair mechanic near downtown San Diego? I think I might have a broken flywheel.

Oil Smell
Driving to work the other day and my 64 convertible made a noise and hesitated at about 65 mph. Now I can smell gear oil and sometime it is hard to shift. I checked the differential oil and it looks pretty dry and it sounds if it starting to howl.
Suggestions please.

Oil leak
I bought my 64 convertible Nov 1 of last year. The engine was very oily and the first 2 months I added 1 quart of oil each month. I have been checking the oil weekly and since it got to the ADD mark on the dipstick it stopped leaking. My question is are all Corvair dipsticks the same length, could I...

Re: Speedometer cable
I FINALLY got to look under my car when they put it on a lift to fix a tire and lo and behold what did I see????? A speedometer cable plugged into the differential housing. I could see where it is clamped to the bottom of the car going to the front. I guess now I look for the other end and see if it...

Re: Speedometer cable
Maybe it is just a 65 trans. The guy I bought it from said there is no place to hook it up. I have not been underneath the car yet. Do you know where I can get a picture of what I need to look for?
Thanks

Re: New to Corvairs
We bought the car from a couple in Long Beach. It hasn't been restored, but has been repainted and re -upholstered and runs great. Most of the chrome is shiny and some is pitted and some of the moulding is dinged up. It is a 64 with a 65 rear end so I need to find out what I need to do to get the sp...

Speedometer cable
I have a 64 Monza convertible with a 65 transaxle and of course the speedometer is not connected. Will 65 spindles bolt right on so I would be able to connect the cable? What other parts would I need.
Thanks

New to Corvairs
My wife and I just bought a 64 Monza convertible. We love the car and look forward to talking about Corvairs with other enthusiasts.
