Dark colored smoke, if coming from the exhaust, indicates excess fuel. The other sound you hear could be almost anything. The scale starts at 0, then 4, 8, 12, 16, then a smaller space of 2 degrees which then is 18

The timing mark 16 is above a short mark. The next full line is the 18 mark.

I have a Clayton above ground dyno in my back yard. It has been sitting 12-15 years. If some one would help me clean it up and help get it running again, would be glad to test some cars!

The condenser in the distributor absorbs electrons as the points are starting to open. As the cam opens the points, electricity is in motion and tries to jump the gap as the points move to full open.
