Re: Corvair engine compartment airflow

The fan produces centrifugal force. That force blows the air down over the cylinders, the thermostats then allow the air to flow out thru the shrouds when the engine is warmed up. As the air moves down and out, a low pressure area is formed above the engine, then allowing the higher atmospheric pres...

Re: Late Model Trunk Lock Replacement #

Most of the auto parts stores computers do not show the correct Corvair parts. These computers came into play long after Corvairs were being sold. Some will have pictures but when compared to the actual parts, usually not even close. Try www.corvair.com This will be Clarks Corvair in Mass. Good folk...

Re: I need pointers on an embarrassing problem.

You have described 2 separate problems. 1. A wing nut fell into the fan area. Likely solution involves taking the top cover off the fan, then find and remove the wing nut. If the fan is damaged, replace it. 2. Grinding noise when clutch pedal depressed. Likely solution here involves removing the eng...

There are 2 rampsides. Roy did not say any price. Give him a call. He is helping the widow and does not seem concerned about big dollars.

Field finds

At a recent car show, a visitor suggested there were a number of Corvairs on a 5 acre lot in San Jacinto Calif. I visited the field last Sunday. Attached are some pictures. The guy I talked to is Roy. His cell number is 951-306-6000. The owner of these vehicles died recently and Roy stated the paper...

Re: Rear engine oil leak

In the 50 plus years of working on Corvairs, one solution has worked every time. Don't put oil in them.

Re: Dash lights & headlights crossed?

May have more than one problem. Try a step by step process. 1. Remove the dimmer switch. Quite often they are in very poor condition. Many time the plug is really corroded. Clean up the plug. There are 3 terminals on the plug. With a continuity light, pull on head light switch and make sure there is...

Re: quick bleeders

There are two basic styles. One is a high pressure device that is used through the top of the master cylinder. It uses high air pressure to push fluid through the system. This system involves a tank with rubber diaphragm and fluid above the diaphragm that is pressured through the bottom of the tank....

Re: input shaft seal and washer thing

In Clarks catalog, page 130, part #41 1/2 is identified as a snap ring. The throw out bearing rides on a tube that looks like a pipe. The input shaft has a slot in which the snap ring fits. When the input shaft is slid into the tube, you must compress the snap ring a little to push shaft all the way...
