Re: ? Rocker arm failure - twice??
What does the inside ( not shown ) part of the rocker arm look like? What does the pivot ball from that arm look like? Someone else noted blue color. If that is not heat treat then it got real hot. No assembly lube maybe? From what is shown it may be brittle fracture. Can't tell from the one picture...

Re: Warning- Ca. Corvairs
This is why I do all my own work. I am so happy that resources like this, Clarks, Brad, Motohead, and more of you out there for help, parts, and advice on a car that is almost 50 years old. Many here have much more time and money in their cars than I do. I don't even have $7000 into mine in 7 years....

Re: Corvair's Around Town
I miss my 1964 Monza convertible. It was so rusty with large holes in the floor. But now I'm positive my 66 has the wrong wheel covers. That Spyder has the same and mine make noise. With all the high school grad parties we have been invited to, I may not get up to Cross Village to get the 66 ouot th...

Re: Reared binding after 3spd to 4spd swap
Ok Stump The Chumps time. 1) Wheels rotate freely forward and backwards when vehicle on jack stands and suspension full down? Yes? 2) When vehicle weight is on the wheels no forward? Yes? OK Brad question. The emergency brake cable(s) shown on Clark's On-line catalog 148, sorry I'm not as go...

Re: 140 Cooling and Lower Sheet Metal Questions
When I do it I will do it right. One trick to speed up valve lash is to count threads on top of lock nuts. So it will wait until I pull engine and transaxle for a clutch, synchros, shifter rod seal, and engine bay restore.

Re: Reared binding after 3spd to 4spd swap
If the parking brake cables got pulled forward and stuck forward as did my 64 convertible, it will roll backwards and bind badly forward. I had to pull the drums and shoes and soak the rusted dirty flex cables from the backing plates to the ends where 1/8" cable comes out.It took a couple weeks...

Re: 140 Cooling and Lower Sheet Metal Questions
Thanks guys, I thought they were important. My brother-in-law has a couple engines out at mom's old place and a co-worker has a pole barn full of parts.
Will aquiire parts soon. Pulling all the pushrods will be a pain.

140 Cooling and Lower Sheet Metal Questions
OK so watching Dave's video of installing the axle half shaft and lower suspension arm showed another Corvair with the lower sheet metal and thermostats off. However in Dave's video the steel sheet metal was still installed above the push rod tubes on the cylinder jugs. Cylinder baffles and clips ar...

So much for fuel restrictions. The float bowls should hold several seconds of fuel.
Back to air/fuel , power enrichment, and or ignition behavior.

Fuel starvation? Good idle. Strong acceleration. How long at steady higher speeds before issues?

Re: Starter wiring question
Did you free up the engine first? The purple wire is what energizes the solenoid windings. When the solenoid plunger pulls back the bell-crank, it does two things. It engages the starter Bendix drive gear and it bottoms out a washer that direct connects the large 12V-Batt lead and the starter windin...
