Re: Staked Valve Seats

Thanks for the help. Looks like staked seats are out. I will talk to the shop I am planning on using to discuss deep seats and valve height. Thanks again. Larry

Staked Valve Seats

I have a 65 corsa 140 and am considering a valve job. Does anyone have any experience with staked valve seats. It appears as if the sharp points produced around the seat would create hot spots. Is this a concern? With deep cut seats do valve springs need to be shimmed? Do 140 engines have a problem ...

How Long Will A 65 Corvair Last

I have a 65 Corsa with an odometer reading of 77,000 when it quit working. The Compression runs from 95 to 110 the vacuum gauge vacillates from about 6 pounds to 14 pounds. Engine number TO421RB. It was running pretty smooth when it started making a noise when I start it. I thought it was a broken s...

Re: Smoke after long drive / Fumes in cabin

Check the PCV system to insure the small hole is not plugged. If plugged it can cause pressure in the crank case causing a leak. The fumes will enter the cabin thru the heater. Larry

Re: Corvairs in Movies

I was just in Dallas at the grassy knoll and there is a glimpse of a corvair going by after the shooting. People must have used them.

Re: Chinese Wabasto Heater FOUND!

I have a 69 corsa convertible. The heater runs me out if I run it on high. If it is cool and I put the top down I run the heater and it is extremely hot with the motor at 350 degrees. It is just a matter of keeping the engine clean and making sure the pcv system is clean and working. Larry

Re: Horsepower of Corvair

Optimistic is probably generous. 33% difference is a lot. You can get about 140 HP if you go to 4500 rpm which most people never use except in racing: you get 137 HP. I suppose HP sold cars in the 60's and were overrated. Can we start a class action suite? Just for fun. Larry

Horsepower of Corvair

I questioned the HP of my 65 Corsa and found a formula for HP. You multiply the torque (160) by the speed of the engine (3600) and divide that product by 5252. This puts my Corsa at 109.67. A 110 Corvair using the same formula is 79.20. If you use 160 X 5200 for my Corsa you get 158 HP. These specif...

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement

I will do some more testing and probably replace it with a mechanical pump as the electric pump sounds like to much work. Thanks for the responses. Larry

Fuel Pump Replacement

I have a 65 corsa and believe the fuel pump is getting weak. I have installed a marine water filter to help with problems associated with ethanol fuel. I have a electric fuel pump and was going to put it in line with the mechanical pump. Is this a good or bad idea? Thanks Larry

Re: Front Tow Hooks

Tying to the cross member probably would mess up the air dam I took of a 67 and put on my 65. Doesn't look like any way is a good solution. I expect to crawl under the car and see if I can figure something out.

Re: Oil Cooler Seals

I am still checking. I did not use sealer and did torque the bolts. It may be the cooler. I haven't taken it off to check. Thanks for the response. Larry

Front Tow Hooks

My 65 corsa quit the other day and I wanted to tow it home. I looked at the front bumper and was unable to find a good way to find anything to attach to the front bumper. Has anyone attached hooks or something else to the front bumper to tow a corvair? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Larry.
