Resealing materials.

I'm in the process of ordering parts to reseal my engine. I have selected Viton for all static seals (PR tubes, rocker arm studs, etc.) My question involves the bell housing and rear cover crankshaft seals - which are dynamic. Are there any issues using the Viton shaft seals? I ask because some memb...

Re: Rebuilding the Corvair Differential Article

Bill, I am not sure what amount of play is too much or how you'd determine that, but some amount is needed by design. Coming out of the differential on the left and the right side is an axle yoke. The axle yoke is designed to slide in and out of the differential via a splined connection with the rin...

Re: Ever hear of a Besasie turbo supercharger?

It's mounted with the turbine shaft in the vertical plane. Neat! Must have a thrust bearing in it?

Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen coming up...

Is anyone planning to participate or spectate in this year’s Glenora Wine Cellars U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in New York on September 7-9? I sure would like to see a contingent of Corvairs on the track! I will be there shooting photos. More info and event schedule at http://www.svra.com...

Re: Fresh Air Cables

Post fix follow up: I was able to take the broken cable assemblies apart and replace the wire and sleeve with brand new using a lawnmower throttle cable. Both side work perfectly now. Should be good for another 50 years.

Re: 2 barrel Turbo

I am not sure where to start jet-wise but recommend tuning with a wideband A/F meter or guage. I made significant improvements using one.

Fresh Air Cables

I am putting the interior back in my '61 GB following a fresh paint job. The fresh air cables (both left and right) need to be repaired. The left side cable is broken and the right side sleeve is kinked. I'd like to repair rather than replace with used - who knows how long the used cable will last? ...

Re: FC Front Disc Brakes

There are two ways I know of and i am sure there are many more. Corvair venders sell disk brake conversion brackets that bolt onto your existing spindle. You can also modify existing disk brake spindles to accept the lower ball joint. There was a thread on this in the FC forum, but I could not find ...

Re: Speedo accuracy

I recall a gent in my club "calibrating" the speedo for his rampside. I think the rampside speedo is driven from the tranny, not the left front tire, but that should not make a difference. I will ask him what is involved.

Re: backwards Corvair terminology!

The engine is in back vs front, so is the seal. Hence 'front main' refers to the seal at the flywheel end, which is at the front of the engine since it's in the back of the car. That is a good logical description, but there are variants. The '61 shop manual calls the front main seal (as Miniman82 d...

Welcome Ulli! Nice site. Are you a member of the Yahoo group "fastvair" ? If not - do join. It is a forum/list for high performance / racing Corvairs. There is a lot of info swapped there.

Re: Sandblasting the undercarriage?

I read about using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) when I was looking for a replacement for glass bead in my blast cabinet. Also some use walnut shells.
