New 1962 Convertible

Just found an original two owner, 50K mile, coronna cream convertible corvair. A real nice survivor that has not been messed with over the years. Stumbled across it today just 45 miles from my house. It was for sale and even though I do not need another one.....well you know. I just had to bring it ...

Re: Fuel Turbo Corvairs

Premium 91 to 93 octane is standard for me. The car loves to have a bottle of octane booster added.

If I don't add octane booster, I will add 3 or 4 gallons of Avgas - 100 octane mixed in with a tank of premium 91 to 93 octane fuel. Spyder runs like a scalded dog!!

Greenbrier Body and VIN Tag Locations

Guys,

I looked at 1962 Greenbrier van today that is for sale. I could not locate the Body tag. I searched the engine compartment but did not see it.
Can somebody tell me specifically where to look for it?

The vin tag on the driver side rear door frame was there and intact.

Re: 63 Spyder Preservation

It's been a few weeks since last post. Hope everybody is having a good summer. Here's a few pictures of most recent work. Found some rust on the car in the lower rocker panel area in front of the wheel wells. And it was on both sides. Rear quarters are both solid. I ordered reproduction panels from ...

Make sure that the caliper is mounted in the correct position. The caliper bleed valve should be positioned on top of the caliper. If the bleed valve is on the bottom, you have the caliper on upside down and will never be able to bleed the lines correctly.

Re: 63 Spyder Preservation

Working on stripping the underside of the engine and trunk lids. These are a pain the butt. So far the stripping process has been easy when working on the "flat panels". It has now become a tedious and time consuming process to get all the small areas cleaned up and there are a lot of them...

Looks fantastic! That's one place that shouldn't leak any more. Beware, there are many others! :chevy:

Re: 63 Spyder Preservation

More stripping this weekend. Worked primarily on the front and rear of car. Soda blaster also arrived this week so I got it hooked up and tried it out. Thumbs up on the Eastwood dual canister soda/media blaster. It will be a good tool now and in the future. However, I quickly realized that chemical ...

Re: 63 Spyder Preservation

I think the main difference is the abrasiveness of the media. Soda is much less abrasive. I am going to experiment with a few different types of media and post my findings on what works well. I know it will be the right tool to get in tight spots such as door jambs, inside door panels, around trunk ...

Re: 63 Spyder Preservation

Here's a few pictures since starting paint removal. I debated on soda blasting the car vs chemical strippers. I decided it will take a little bit of both. I ordered an Eastwood soda blaster last week. Since I'm waiting on delivery, I thought I would start it the old fashion way for a while. The pict...

Erector set was my favorite toy growing up. Corvairs took its place. Sounds like the best of both worlds. Keep it up.

Re: 63 Spyder Preservation

Took the plunge on taking the car back out of service since the mechanical rebuild. Moving onto the cosmetics. Started this week by removing bumpers, trim, headlights, tail lights, convertible top, most of the interior, front windshield, door glass and mechanics. Everything bagged and labeled. Lots ...

Re: Wheels & Tires

Just picked up a set of NOS 13" wire wheels. Never been on the road. I always liked the 3 prong spinners better than the 2 spinners which are now on the car. Going to order a set of Clarks 3 prongs for them. Also was able to pick up a NOS set of bezels.
