2600 pounds, 15-20 mpg. Finally found a pic of the van, must have lost the ones showing inside. Most of this thing was modified, very little original left to save weight. He drove this thing all over the country!

Re: Adding Dual Master Cylinder on FC

Thanks everyone! I sent Clark's a message, and they replied by saying the lines they sell in kits are different if you have a shifter that does through the gas tank, but if you have a PG then just order for the one without the hole and you'll be fine.

Re: Corvair diet food

Was that the guy that used the plastic interior panels? Not sure what you call it but it's like cardboard but made of plastic. Very light. Believe so, that stuff was like corrugated plastic panels. You're right, very light! Wish i could find the pic of the dash, that was amazing. He removed the das...

Re: Corvair diet food

Well, I tried, but no luck finding the pics. Will have to dig deeper. But as a weight reduction experiment, I can honestly say it was impressive!

Re: Corvair diet food

A club member some years ago attempted the minimal weight deal on an Ultravan. He found ways to reduce weight I never would have thought of! I might can find some pics if you're interested.

64 Spyder numbers

OK, would like some help. Have most of it decoded, but a couple of things confuse me a bit. VIN is 263643, I believe this means it is the 163,643rd '64 model made of what appears to be 207,114 '64's total produced/ Correct? 05D means fourth week of May What is the number after WR on the tag? Mine re...

Adding Dual Master Cylinder on FC

Getting ready to start on my '63 Rampside. Been sitting a while, and needs brakes. Think while I'm at it I will convert to a dual master cylinder. Already have a cylinder, but need plumbing. Any advice from those who have done this already? Any issues with checking and filling both reservoirs? Why d...

Re: Electrical - is this normal?

Thanks for the input, now for a few answers. First car: yes, the battery drains. yes, there is an aftermarket radio. No clock. Yes the test light is simply completing the circuit in place of the negative battery strap. At first, the test light would glow bright then dim, disconnect, repeat. As if a ...

Electrical - is this normal?

This may be a basic, simple question but it has me confused. Please help me understand this phenomena. Tested two 66 Monzas, both do this: 1. Everything turned off, car not running. 2. disconnect negative cable from battery, leave positive in place. 3. touch a test light from the bolt where the nega...

Re: Starter nose cones break!

Thanks for all the help on this, might be on to something! When it was taken down before, it did have a bolted flywheel and some of the parts were replaced. Everything apparently looked fine, but they did not check the runout of the gear, so that we can do. But I have wondered - what is the possibil...

Re: Starter nose cones break!

My dad told me that the last time this happened, he and another ace mechanic from our club pulled the engine and went through all that, declaring it good. Could have missed something of course. When a ring gear goes bad, what is the failure mode? Do they wobble? Loose teeth? Get out of round?

Starter nose cones break!

We have a '66 110 4 spd that keeps having starter problems. For some reason, the nose cones break. My dad replaced the starter today, it worked fine until he moved the car in the yard a few weeks ago. When he took the starter out, the nose cone wasn't just cracked but broken off. Weird thing is, thi...

Re: Points and Condenser

Yes on the premium. Highest octane ethanol free is the way to go. 140's have higher compression than a turbo not under boost, so listen close for pinging. don't lug it too much on the hills and you should do fine. And if you can't find that fuel along the way and have to use ethanol gas, be sure to ...

Re: 1964 four door automatic project by remote

Yeah, the better answer would be to remove weight from an area, instead of moving it around, to get a desired effect. But as I have to have a battery and like to have a spare, to the front they go. Again, just my 2 cents worth, but I would recommend keeping the battery in the back for a while, and ...

Re: 1964 four door automatic project by remote

Yeah, I hear you on some modifications to personalize the car. First thing I did with mine was put radial tires on it. Then, added a quick shift kit to cut down on the long throw of the shifter on the 4 speed. Later mods included a smaller diameter, walnut steering wheel, and later on, some things I...
