Re: Saved my son’s first car
As to where the Corvair graveyard is..... it is N of Oklahoma City on a club member’s acreage. Inasmuch as it is not my property, that’s all I can say

Re: Saved my son’s first car
I started working on it inside, removing the seats and carpet, looking for rust in the floorboards. The white seats are covered with mold! But it turns out that the floors are very well preserved! There is some surface rust in a few places as the picture shows. The only rust through holes were at t...

Saved my son’s first car
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171205/af5fd2129427c48e9bc1bd7975ed6ead.jpg My son’s car was put out to pasture in 2002. It was taken to the Corvair graveyard for lack of interest on his part and lack of room on mine! It is time to bring her/it back to life. A stop at a local car wash knocked of...

Re: Gauge Cluster Upgrade
If you are up for something a little different, Tom Knoblauch sells a gauge retainer, for aftermarket gauges for your Monza cluster. You purchase modern gauges, with any face you like and the GPS speedometers need no calibration! You might drop Tom a note to get more info and pricing! I am in proces...

When does one qualify as a “geezer”!
My oldest son said to me, “Dad get rid of all your engines and parts collection. I can’t use them when you’re gone.” It was a reality check!

Very detailed on your engine build, Charlie. Thanks! Many owners ask what they can do to improve their HP. You’ve give a blueprint of one way to go without them having to do any reasearch!

Re: LM Corvair 16gb Memory Sticks
It is a sad commentary on not fulfilling his obligation to fellow Corvair “people”. I tried to order on the website he set up for his Corvair thumb drives, to no avail. So I guess I’m lucky in the respect I didn’t loose any moneys. I believe that there is still a large contingent of we who would sti...

Re: Formerly Grymm, re-introducing myself!
I am more of a lurker now that my Corsa is finished (are they ever, really). However glad you’re back and have your own, nice shop! Regarding the paint removal on your ‘63. Taking my ‘68 down to bare metal, I used a heat gun and single edge razor blades! 6 layers of paint and primer came off very e...

Re: Explain wrist pin offset...
Thanks, good to know.
So your experience is that without the offset, these pistons are fine because of the tighter clearances.
Another plus is that you can't put the rods on wrong.

Re: Explain wrist pin offset...
Ed, Not to be a PITA, but the picture you show, originally from Dave Motoheads post in the CorvairCenter Forum, is of an Aries forged piston, not a KB hyperutetic as sold by Corvair Underground! So the question remains Anyone have a set of the pistons in question that can measure the offset? Sent fr...

Engine won't start
I may have missed it but once you have adjusted #1 and the corresponding valves as shown in the 65 shop manual (3 intake , 5 exhaust. then on the driver side, 4 exhaust and 6 intake), make sure that you are turning the crank counter clockwise to take #2 to TDC! If you simply turn the crank 360 clock...

Re: Charging issue
RN, Ted is spot on ! Your 65 really looks nice and you do not want to risk your life or your Corvair on something so simple to change! The up side is no longer a fire danger with the rubber hose and plastic filter and the engine compartment will look better with them gone and the correct fuel line i...
