Re: '66 Sprint Convertible resto aka "my first car/first Corvair"
The brake shoes look like old school metallics to me. I am sure someone else will chime in with a definitive answer shortly.

Re: Building a modded FI 140 for my Wagon
Nice work on the exhaust system Tom. Looks like they are safety wired .Reminds me of my days in USAF as a jet engine mechanic. Most every bolt had to be safety wired.

Re: Building a modded FI 140 for my Wagon
I thought that I had seen something similar in Richard Finche's "How to Keep Your Corvair Alive ". It was in one of the later editions with the picture of his wife on it. I tried to find it in my Corvair book collection, but I couldn't put my hands on it. Great work as usual Tom. : :tu: :tu:

Re: Building a modded FI 140 for my Wagon
That was a good catch on the rear accessory housing. I figured the same thing out about 30 years ago when I assembled my first Corvair engine and was installing an aftermarket camshaft from Clark's . I was using an early housing because that is all that I had. I borrowed a Dremel and an appropriate ...

Re: Bucket Seat Replacement
I might also add that there is a substantial weight savings eliminating the Corvair seats. I have been a stock guy most years, but lately I've realized a lot of advantages with replacing my seating for something newer.

Re: Corvair as a daily driver. Am I insane?
I lost a belt in the middle of the night in Fort Stockton Texas in my 61 Greenbrier coming from Yuma Arizona on my way back to Florida. I lost a harmonic balancer on my 65 Monza Convertible 140, buy luckily that was one of the items that I brought with me on the bus trip out there. I had a clutch go...

Re: Corvair as a daily driver. Am I insane?
That is correct Dave, I was on my back to northern California after visiting the family in Florida. One of eight trips that I have driven a Corvair car or Greenbrier across the country. Starting in Jacksonville, all the way to SanDiego ,and then all the way up to Seattle and back again to Florida. A...

Re: Corvair as a daily driver. Am I insane?
I think that I came that way when I visited you .I was in my Corsa and it was a fun drive. There was construction on the road most of the way. I couldn't imagine doing that daily. Props to you Dave.

Re: Preparing floor for new carpet
I didn't mean to lead you astray. I thought that I said that Clark's sells the rubber that goes around the vent door to seal the perimeter area. There are definitely no kits to repair the assembly as a whole. If you feel that your vent assemblies are too far gone ,then sourcing used ones in better c...
