Re: Fuel injection with coil packs

Craig, ya got a write up on what you did?, I would rather find the GM/Pontiac stuff. I am assuming you used the throttle body from the Fiero. Was it just fuel delivery or spark too? thanks guys Here's a write-up on what I did : http://autoxer.skiblack.com/injection.html Within this link, there's a ...

Re: Fuel injection with coil packs

What you're suggesting isn't crazy, I did something similar 25 years ago: Multiport injection from a 2.7L, 140hp Fiero. There were some work-arounds, especially in the coolant temp to cylinder head temp conversion. Ultimately, the fuel map was about right and withing the ECM's ability to compensate....

Re: ? About LM Verts

No kits available. All the structure is in the double-wall rockers, and torque boxes at each end. Torque boxes include structure inside the cowl vent and hinge pillar. If those are in good shape you should be in ok shape. We will have to wait and see if anyone responds with any kind of supplemental ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

I have a 64 service manual. Since I have a 68 140 in the car should I get a late model diagram? The '64 manual is the closest you're going to get; the '68 manual won't provide any useful information. Since your car has been converted to an internally regulated alternator, this diagram should be pre...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

The only things that could cause the alternator "brown" wire (#1) to melt would be 1) Short to ground somewhere between the alternator and the GEN/FAN light in the dash or 2) Another wire in the harness melting for some reason and shorting the brown wire to ground. The brown wire (GEN/FAN ...

Re: Rear engine Rover V8 Parts?

I'm trying to figure out what parts are needed to put a Rover(Buick/Olds) aluminum V8 into the back of a Corvair using the Corvair transaxle. I've contacted D&D Fabrications (they build Buick/Rover engines) and Kennedy Engineered Products and neither of them have Corvair adapters. Saw a bellhou...

Re: '66 Sprint Convertible resto aka "my first car/first Corvair"

Fred has it right, those segmented brake shoes are old-school metallic linings. I installed metallic brakes when I had the car in the early 70s. Those old shoes were still in place when I started the restoration. While the front shoes were/are in great shape, the rears were paper thin in places. Rem...

Re: '66 Sprint Convertible resto aka "my first car/first Corvair"

Who knew a guy could spend an entire day configuring and connecting things at the south end of the tunnel? That was my Sunday: DSCF7118.JPG DSCF7112.JPG DSCF7114.JPG Well, I lied a little about Sunday. I also took a minute to install the previously sandblasted and painted front bumper brackets into ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

Options for melted wires in engine harness: (This is a comprehensive list) 1) Short circuit in Tail/license light circuit. Circuit has overcurrent protection so not likely. 2) Short circuit in Turn/brake light circuit. Circuit has overcurrent protection so not likely. 3) Short circuit in Reverse lig...

Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

I've seen this before. The ones I've fixed were caused by poor contact at the points-plate grounding spring. Vacuum advance only occurs at cruise and when it advances, the points plate moves and the grounding spring loses contact between its moving and fixed element.

Re: Silent Cam Gear

Your cam's set screws are an advanced counter-measure that prevents the gear from slipping. This modification is usually reserved for high-performance or racing engines. Is your cam gear all aluminum? "Silent" cam gears were either an aluminum hub with nylon teeth or all-fiber construction...

Re: Does anyone have a Greenbrier with a factory camper?

I did 50 years ago, does that count? Technically mine was based on a Corvair 95 Deluxe Corvan, not a GB. Starting with a panel allowed factory installation of screened, louvered windows along with a full interior kit.

Re: Melting wires, simple question

M&H Electric does offer a 64 Corvair engine harness already modified for an internally regulated alternator, part number 44053. [Url][https://wiringharness.com/ymm-search-results-table?year_id=1964&make_id=4&carline_id=102][url] That harness will take care of the rewiring but the cause o...

Re: 1963 Corvair fold down seat operation help needed

Except for '60 and '68-9, I don't think there were latches, just a spring clip. A quick review of the 63 owners manual, page 20, confirms this. https://www.corvair.org/chapters/corvanatics/files/documents/ownman/63OM.pdf Maybe someone put a '60 rear seat in your car. I do recall the seat latch in my...
