Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!
Let me tell you a totally related story: Along time ago in a galaxy far away, I had a '63 Corvan 95 Factory camper which I further modified by adding an extended-height roof. It had a 4-carb 140hp engine and a 4-speed transmission. I built a beautiful mahogany interior and it was my little ground-ba...

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!
Welcome to the Rampside world! Before you pull the power-pack, check the clutch cable. When the cable housing starts to collapse, there's not enough stroke to release the clutch. A short term fix is to overtighten the clutch cable to get partial use of the clutch. The downside to this "fix"...

Re: My First Helen Springfest Adventure is over...
That's quite a story, thanks for posting. As for the clock, I find my eyes drawn to the inlaid wood table; that's cool. You mention the increased difficulty of working with an audience, I try to avoid that as much as possible. I'm sure there are those among the onlookers who want to lend an (unneede...

Re: I need help understanding the engine
Welcome! You're in the right place; there are many knowledgeable Corvair people here. FYI, Rather than write a novel, I prefer to be brief and have a conversation; that's just my style. Your '60 engine has many unique features not found on other years of Corvair engines. This includes the carburetor...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
When running, #1 should be at system voltage, meaning 13.something. #2 was wired battery direct by GM; the wire's purpose is to bring the actual battery voltage to the regulator without any voltage loss. Here's the same thing direct from Delco-Remy: “1” Terminal - Indicator lamp/Ignition terminal ca...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
Four pages and 1100 views! This seemingly simple question isn't really all that simple, is it? While the OP is back in action, there's still no smoking gun/fault identified. Hopefully it was just something in the now replaced engine harness.

Re: Fuel injection with coil packs
Craig, ya got a write up on what you did?, I would rather find the GM/Pontiac stuff. I am assuming you used the throttle body from the Fiero. Was it just fuel delivery or spark too? thanks guys Here's a write-up on what I did : http://autoxer.skiblack.com/injection.html Within this link, there's a ...

Re: Fuel injection with coil packs
What you're suggesting isn't crazy, I did something similar 25 years ago: Multiport injection from a 2.7L, 140hp Fiero. There were some work-arounds, especially in the coolant temp to cylinder head temp conversion. Ultimately, the fuel map was about right and withing the ECM's ability to compensate....

Re: ? About LM Verts
No kits available. All the structure is in the double-wall rockers, and torque boxes at each end. Torque boxes include structure inside the cowl vent and hinge pillar. If those are in good shape you should be in ok shape. We will have to wait and see if anyone responds with any kind of supplemental ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
I have a 64 service manual. Since I have a 68 140 in the car should I get a late model diagram? The '64 manual is the closest you're going to get; the '68 manual won't provide any useful information. Since your car has been converted to an internally regulated alternator, this diagram should be pre...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
The only things that could cause the alternator "brown" wire (#1) to melt would be 1) Short to ground somewhere between the alternator and the GEN/FAN light in the dash or 2) Another wire in the harness melting for some reason and shorting the brown wire to ground. The brown wire (GEN/FAN ...

Re: Rear engine Rover V8 Parts?
I'm trying to figure out what parts are needed to put a Rover(Buick/Olds) aluminum V8 into the back of a Corvair using the Corvair transaxle. I've contacted D&D Fabrications (they build Buick/Rover engines) and Kennedy Engineered Products and neither of them have Corvair adapters. Saw a bellhou...

Re: '66 Sprint Convertible resto aka "my first car/first Corvair"
Fred has it right, those segmented brake shoes are old-school metallic linings. I installed metallic brakes when I had the car in the early 70s. Those old shoes were still in place when I started the restoration. While the front shoes were/are in great shape, the rears were paper thin in places. Rem...
