Re: 1962 spyder timing problems
16 degrees where, at idle? Check the manual, static timing is much higher.

Re: Weber dcoe progressive how-to
You have to cut the throttle shaft in the middle and find a way to attach a vacuum actuator to the non pedal operated side. Then there’s the tuning...

Re: Turbo timing questions...
Ah, there’s a new version. I used the old v3 lite jr model, apparently the latest/greatest version has native USB support and some other features. I tend to go the cheap route, but the choice is yours. There’s not much price difference anymore, might as well get the best one I suppose? https://www.a...

I don’t trust those things any farther than I can throw them, just too damn inconsistent for my liking. Do megajolt, you’ll thank me later.

Re: Turbo timing questions...
To answer your question since I missed it last time, I don’t think you can just remove the retard canister since it’s connected to the plate inside the distributor. I believe you still need something to keep it from flopping around, so the correct solution would be to leave the can but remove the ho...

Re: 180 Turbo Distributor Questions
Bad running with the hose removed is the result of the vacuum leak you just created, it’s running lean and will do so unless you plug the hose. Sound to me like you have the wrong main jet in your YH, or the lifting arm isn’t raising the needle properly to enrich the mixture, or your turbo is seized...

Re: Turbo timing questions...
Nothing wrong with reduced initial timing and no retard, in the VW world we call it "locked out" timing when this is done. It's not harmful to the engine when done correctly, but there are side effects: 1. you will likely have to add idle throttle with the adjustment screw to raise idle RP...

Re: 1962 150HP distributor question
Whatever you do, don’t push the engine hard on boost if you hear signs of detonation. It’s a bit like a rattle can of paint being shaken, if you hear that get off the gas.

Re: turbo noise
If it were the turbo you would know. Only thing that can make a noise like that is the compressor making contact with its housing, which would mean the bearing is shot, which usually winds up causing a massive oil leak before you ever hear the noise. So unless you see a smoke screen at your tailpipe...

Re: To Turbo or Not to Turbo
Detonation is your enemy here, unless you know exactly what you're doing and have a plan of attack to keep it at bay, I would not attempt this.

Re: Spark Plugs for 64 Spyder
If you find they foul out too easily, go a couple ranges hotter and see if that cures it. I had issues with the stock plugs being too cold, if the center electrode doesn't get hot enough, deposits won't burn off like they're supposed to and fouling will result.

Re: Please help!!!
good lord Brad, I get lost looking for the end of your posts sometimes lol. Check to see that the main jets are clear, sounds like it's running lean on progression. As for the difficult hot restarts, my car had the same issue. Turned out fuel wasn't being pumped to the carb- electric under tank pump...

Re: Any experience with the Knocksense system?
It can be a chore to get them dialed in correctly, air cooled engines tend to be noisier than other engines which can false trigger the sensor.

Re: Pull through water injection
If you use a devil's own kit it doesn't much care how much boost pressure you make if you're plumbed after the compressor, 15 psi boost doesn't make a lot of water flow difference when there's 150psi pushing the water in there. Sure it's gonna make a small difference, but probably not enough to matt...
