Re: Ben Carey's LED lights install in my 64 with a 3rd brake light

The man makes a good point. LEDs require good constant power. Sockets provide rather shaky connections. Hardwiring is a much better way to do it. It's not as if it is difficult. Three wires.

Re: UV Dye Surprise

Interesting discussion. I rebuilt the 4 speed in my 64 a year and a half ago. I refilled it with the Amsoil stuff everyone recommends (I've been using Amsoil products my whole life anyway). After the rebuild, I can shift all the way up with no issues, but when I try to shift from 3rd back down into ...

I think it is a combination of Clark's repro sockets being crappy and the weird football shape of the contacts on the sockets Ben's builder uses.

Late models have a much better socket design. Lucky ducks. Haha.

Ben Carey's LED lights install in my 64 with a 3rd brake light

Bought a pair of the Red LED brake light panels from Ben a few weeks back. Had all sorts of headaches trying to figure out how to make them work with the 3rd brake light the previous owner had. The person who had wired it in had wired it all the way to the front of the car and I thought that was wro...

Re: What do you think of this engine build idea?

Bahaha. Thanks Debby Downer! (I'm totally kidding.) Okay. So, at the very least find some freakin 140 heads and build me a 140. Got it. If nothing else, it will allow me to build the engine I "almost" had in my Corsa...but which I stupidly put an OT-10 cam in which was NOT enough cam for t...

Re: What do you think of this engine build idea?

What about using the 95 as a basis for a turbo setup? I would imagine the rules wouldnr alloe for yenko mods on a car that cane out before those mods existed... Not sure how a turbo does on an auto cross. Bet itd be nice on a road course though

Re: Clarks "Econo" valve covers

I had the Clarks headers on the 140 in my Corsa. They were badass. It's nice to not have to mess with those logs and getting the right hangers for your exhaust, etc... I always had a heck of a time keeping my exhaust hung right when I used the stock logs. No such problems with Clarks headers!

Re: What do you think of this engine build idea?

Yeah but then I have to find and buy 140 heads, get 140 tins, etc.. That or just buy a complete 140 so I can get the nitrided crank too.. We wanna start with some autocross but I'd like to do some road courses as well. Not just "corvair only" stuff either, but I'm not looking to go beat th...

What do you think of this engine build idea?

Hey ya'll. Long time no text. Bought a 64 500 coupe to turn into a track car. It has a 95 in it. I'm fine with that. HOWEVER...I want to rebuild it this winter and this is what I'm thinking: Heads: Have the step milled off and use .035" copper gaskets Port and polish including combustion chambe...

http://i60.tinypic.com/1496w5c.jpg 1964 500 Coupe. 95hp with a 4 speed. SO MANY previous owner screw-ups to fix. Working on it. Badly replaced floors that are rusting because the trunk seal was never replaced after the last repaint and allowed the trunk to rust through under the dash...so every tim...

Re: I Miss Corvairs :-(

I'm not in contact with the guy. All I can remember is that he was in Fort Lauderdale and his last name is Logan. He had a great accent of some sort (aussie maybe?) and was great with the whole purchase. eBay of course doesn't let people contact each other outside of a certain time frame, which is p...

Re: I Miss Corvairs :-(

Yeh, man. All new brakes with dual M/C, rebuilt 140 with forged pistons, OT-20 cam, Cragar wheels, 87 Toyota Celica bucket seats.. I was just about to install Bilsteins(or Gabriels...I forget now..), a camber compensator bracket and HD springs (to lower and stiffen) when I sold it. I was spending a ...
