Re: Radio replacement
I don't know your technical background or how comfortable you are with reading Corvair wiring schematic diagrams. Your aftermarket radio likely requires both a switched (ignition switch control) and unswitched power source. The latter draws only a little power, but allows the radio electronics "...

Although it is somewhat pricey, I have come to believe that these Royal Purple motor oil and gear lube products are a good match for the Corvair engine and manual transaxle. https://mma.prnewswire.com/media/1863295/RP_Synthetic_Expert_Logo_Black_Text_Logo.jpg?p=facebook HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE OIL ...

Re: LM Front Speaker Replacement options?
Original used Corvair speakers may suffer from degraded sound due to the age of the speaker cone material. Cone material may be damaged or torn as they wear out with exposure to heat, moisture, and usage. You may be happier with a modern replacement. :google: :search: https://www.google.com/search?q...

Re: temperature gauge escalates to max reading
https://www.corvairforum.com/forum/download/file.php?id=38310 There are two electromagnetic coils inside the gauge. The one depicted on the left side acts like an electromagnetic return "spring" that provides a constant pull of the needle to the left side — whenever the ignition key is ON...

Re: Engine suddenly pooped out.
If one carburetor is "dead", your dual exhaust should help to provide a clue. The exhaust sound and the temperature of the exhaust gases should be noticeably different from the other side. If you are effectively running on three cylinders, an ignition problem is unlikely. That leaves fuel....

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
The Pertronix 3.0 ohm ignition coil has been relocated from the original Corvair coil mounting location next to the distributor. This is generally a good move as it takes the coil away from mounting on the hot cylinder head to reduce heat transfer from the hot cylinder head to the coil body. HOWEVE...

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
» Wed May 01, 2024 1:59 pm As I like to remind Brad --- the 3.0 ohm coil results in inferior coil output voltages and spark at the spark plug during starting. It's a lazy way to avoid using a ballast resistor. Adequate for warm weather use. The DELCO engineers knew what they were doing. https://cdn...

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
The original Delco coil primary resistance value of 1.28-1.42 ohms was likely chosen to match with the 1.8 ohm ballast resistor wire value to produce about 3 ohms of total resistance for the Delco coil Primary to manage heat buildup within the coil. At the same time, the voltage divider circuit was ...

Re: LM turbo fuel tank lines
I have attached some sections of the 1965 Corvair Assembly Manual that specifically look at the fuel system. The entire manual is too large to upload to the Corvair Forum as a single Adobe Reader (.pdf) file. I took a few minutes and subdivided the entire 1965 Corvair Assembly Manual into four equal...
