https://www.chiaragrandin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/doubt-1159639-m.jpg The Pertronix Ignitor II has been known to have some sensor problems with managing a slow idle, such as found with a 6-cylinder Corvair running a Powerglide automatic transmission in DRIVE. I believe the problem appears wh...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
I have a 1964 Monza with a 1968 140hp engine with a simple electronic ignition. The wires are severely melting or have melted, i.e. the wiring harness got hot, there's a short, and the insulation is melting. In fact they are still getting hot. I still have to trace down the problem. In rereading yo...

Re: 1963 Convertible Rear Seat
Hi, my name is Tony. After being out of restoring old rides for 30+ years, I picked up a 1963 Corvair Convertible. Been sitting for 30-40 years. I have been slowly picking away at it since last fall. A lot of fun, really cool cars. Located in Northern Utah. :welcome2: :tu:  Welcome, Tony, to ...

:goodpost: :ty: :tu: I enjoy reading about these Corvair-based "adventures". It does take an adventuresome soul to take such risks and to place your trust in your "trusty" but aging Corvair! I thought you might enjoy reading about some similar Corvair-based travels, so her...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
Fact --- The Pertronix coil catalog says to use a 3.0 coil for ALL six cylinder cars. This is just silly as different six cylinder cars use different coils. The Corvair coil primary is about 1.3 ohms and the ballast is about 1.8 ohms. I did the research through the Pertronix documentation to try to...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
I have read many comments on this Forum and on other technical forums that continue to debate whether or not to bypass the original vehicle ballast resistor wire to provide full voltage to the Pertronix components. Some declare the Pertronix ignition coils to be "junk", and the Pertronix i...

Re: Electric Corvair ---
I think, perhaps, that lithium batteries are a necessary evil. When treated properly and when they work correctly, they can provide a lot of rechargeable energy storage that modern society has found to be necessary. They kind of remind me of the very large fuel storage and power needed for the Space...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Question
:goodpost: The electric fuel pumps I have placed in-service appear to be very reliable and relatively easy to change-out, if necessary. I believe that reliability of the electric fuel pump is greatly improved when a quality fuel filter is placed in-line, between the fuel tank and the pump inlet. Mou...
