Re: Electric Corvair ---

I think, perhaps, that lithium batteries are a necessary evil. When treated properly and when they work correctly, they can provide a lot of rechargeable energy storage that modern society has found to be necessary. They kind of remind me of the very large fuel storage and power needed for the Space...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Question

:goodpost: The electric fuel pumps I have placed in-service appear to be very reliable and relatively easy to change-out, if necessary. I believe that reliability of the electric fuel pump is greatly improved when a quality fuel filter is placed in-line, between the fuel tank and the pump inlet. Mou...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

A new engine compartment wiring harness may not match the actual, modified configuration present in your engine compartment. A conversion from a generator (1964) to an alternator requires some modifications, as would the use of an external voltage regulator vs. an internal electronic voltage regulat...

Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

The secondary carburetors do not have much spring pressure closing the throttle butterfly valves. Only the small springs on the secondary accelerator pump mechanism apply any pressure to close those secondary throttles. THEORY: Because the secondary carburetors see little use, the throttle m...

Re: New to Corvairs - where should I start?

Modified PCV Configuration.jpg Looks pretty good! The modified PCV system configuration appears to duplicate the standard setup used in 1964-1965 (as long as there is a fixed orifice restricting the tube connected to the vacuum balance tube, and the other hose is connected to an air filter input to...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

Some high output high performance ignition coils have a very low primary resistance. It may almost look like it reads zero ohms if you don't check it carefully. The standard Delco coil has a 1.42 ohm Primary resistance. Most aftermarket coils have either 1.5 ohm or 3.0 ohms Primary resistance. These...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

A clear, detailed photograph of your 1964 engine compartment may be helpful, as it may help us to see what you have there and what changes to the electrical hardware have been made. A close-up of the heated/melted/damaged wiring would also probably be helpful in communicating the nature of your wiri...

Re: ticking valves?

If you do not have the rocker arms adjusted properly, that could be the reason that the ticking noise you hear only begins once the engine is warm. The shop manual procedure basically has you adjusting the valvetrain for zero clearance. THEN... the rocker arm nut is turned an additional ½ turn tight...
