Re: Valve noise
It could also be indicative of a worn valve guide. This too can cause noise.

Re: Steering Column/Shaft ID
That sure looks like the correct 67 column and shaft. The shaft is integral to the steering box on the 66.

Re: Turbo usage
Buick Grand National. David Clemens ran upwards of 30 lbs of boost on his old turbo Corvair engine albeit on race gas. It's definitely doable if your tune is up to snuff.

Re: Turbo usage
I run straight methanol and have run over 30 lbs of boost with it. You will not be able to run anywhere near that much on water. I buy the methanol (5 gallons at a time) at my local track which is close to my house. In a pinch I have used straight denatured alcohol but it has become very expensive.

Re: Turbo usage
I put my own methanol injection together using a Snow controller and nozzles, braided lines and reservoir from Devil's Own. I spray straight methanol as it is way better at controlling detonation than water. I never had much luck with water.

The hole sizes aren't' always 3/16". I pictures of coupe tags with the larger hole size.corvairsince70 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 09, 2018 4:56 am I have two '66 convertibles with the 3/16 hole punched. No shoulder harnesses here. On the post by "notched", the hole looks quite a bit bigger than 3/16".

Re: build a corvair racer
Hi! What a loaded question. I am somewhat compelled to respond. From what I understand about historic automobile racing in the UK such as at Goodwood and Silverstone, there must be FIA ( Federation Internationale de L'Automobile; a bunch of French guys) sanctioned Saloon racing provenance. I was ...

Re: 4 1 barrel conversion for Monza 110hp
You would be better off buying a set of 140 heads and the other hardware as the performance gains are more in the large valves, exhaust tubes and manifolds than adding secondaries to small valve heads.

Looks like a Garret turbo off of a non inter cooled Ford 2.3. Correct?

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?
Your car is severely over geared if the car in question is the one listed in your profile with the 110. I did that years ago with a set of 3.89's. Those gears are best suited to a heavy vehicle such as a van OR something highly modified with heads and cam that can spin past 6,000 rpms. I would ...

Re: 140 Head Differences
The 65 heads have a casting # that ends in 728. These can be identified by the 1/4-20 bolts retaining the fan shroud to the top with one 3/8-16 at the rear end on the left side and front end on the right side. The 66 heads have a casting# that ends in 570. I have seen service replacements for these ...

Re: Rebuilt Possi Differential
Early 6 bolt posi units are HIGHLY prone to cracking. Jeff at the Corvair Ranch showed me several last time I was there. He said they rarely pass the magaflux testing. If you absolutely have to have a posi in then consider the steel cover Clark's sells or modify a late 9 bolt for use inside the ...
