Re: Low Compresion on one side

ok...I got into the valve covers today and everything was working fine. I guess Will need to do the valve seats. is there anything else I should be looking for while I have things apart. Did you loosen the rocker adjusting nuts and try again? Just because things look right doesn't mean the valves a...

Re: Low Compresion on one side

When you pull the valve cover off, see if about the same amount of threads are showing on each adjusting nut. If someone messed up setting the valves (too tight) you will experience compression problems. You can try backing the adjustment off on the low cylinders and check compression again. If it c...

Re: Parasitic Battery Drain and Resolution

My wagon had this exact problem when I got it. Nice to find something that's an easy fix isn't it?

Re: TEMP GAUGE JUMPS

It sounds like you have your stock Corsa temp gauge hooked to the stock temp switch? When you say it used to work, you mean it actually looked like it was registering a temperature on the gauge? I'm surprised because I thought the stock temp switch was a snap switch that was either on or off. The th...

Re: Anybody Go From Bench To Buckets?

Ken has a Lakewood I believe, so buckets will not just bolt in. If it's a '62 there may be a chance. But either way I think all you'd have to do is - like you said - make some mounts. But it might end up being all 4.

Re: Lowering An Early Model?

The problem is that lowering it in the rear changes the camber. The lower you go, the more severe the camber gets.

Re: Dropping the gas tank of a 1964 corvair 700

I believe there is a hard brake line that runs behind the tank. I know there is on a late model, I think the early has one too, so replace that while you have the tank out. Supposedly you can drop the tank with the front suspension in, but I have never had much luck doing it that way. I usually end ...

Re: 140 heads on 110 yes or no??

Ahhh..I also do have the 140 manifolds. True, not sure about the smoke till I pull heads. But I think its guides/seals the way it smokes under vacuum when taking foot off the throttle. If its a combination of the two then I will have to invest in cylinders/pistons...probably .040 over. You should b...

Re: 102 heads on an 80 hp engine Will it work?

Yeah, it should work. May not be an ideal setup, but it should run fine. Might need to play with timing/advance. I think the 102 heads are higher compression, so you may having more pinging issues. You will need to run premium fuel too more than likely.

Re: Help with corvair

This is a really old debate, and I don't think you'll find a definitive answer. Lots of people use a D/A sander, others use the paint stripper and I've heard of people using a razor blade. It really depends on what tools you have available (air compressor and a D/A for example) and probably how thic...

That # is for a 65 or 66 140 according to the CORSA tech guide. You have 4 carburetors?

Re: please help

Even better would be to get the numbers off the heads. Almost any block can be used to build any type of engine, the heads have more to do with what it actually is. Head numbers are on the ends, but hard to see in a normal Corvair that's fully assembled. Might be easier in a rail.

The wires do not unplug from the housing, there is a plug inside the engine compartment and when removed there is a few inches of wire with the housing.

Re: HUGE thanks to UNSAFE and others for saving my Olympics

I am definitely not giving up on earlies. I have a '63 convertible and a Lakewood. I've always preferred earlies, but got a late for my "performance" car, because they are easier to make handle. It's definitely not impossible for an early, just easier for a late. But I drive my EM converti...

HUGE thanks to UNSAFE and others for saving my Olympics

I have been looking forward to the Olympics for 3 years (since the last one) and had spent a ton of time and money in the last several weeks to get my hi-po turbo engine installed in the car. I finally got it running and not pinging last week before I took off for the Olympics. Unfortunately about 1...
