Building a Corvair GT
I just finished a synopsis of my recently completed Corvair restomod project and the document is attached. I plan to fully document the project someday, but have other projects that currently have higher priority.

I also used a wax-type, spray-on rustproofing inside the frame sections, doors, etc.

Re: rust prevention
My approach was:
-- Rotisserie
-- Media blasting
-- Primer
-- Top coat
-- Remove, media blast, and powder coat suspension parts
-- No salted roads

Re: Transmission won't shift into 3/4
Here is a picture with the side cover removed. The transmission is in neutral. The 1/2 shift fork appears to be positioned correctly (1/2 works fine as well as reverse), but the 3/4 fork is displaced the right. It's not solidly locked in that position because I can move it a smidge (a few ten-thousa...

Transmission won't shift into 3/4
Background -- It's a '65 4 speed that I had a guy who has a good reputation with manual transmissions rebuild (bearings, blocker rings, etc.) Situation -- I reinstalled the drivetrain in the car without checking the transmission for proper operation. Problem -- I can't get the tranny into 3 or 4. It...

Re: Pitman Arm Bushing TOO TIGHT!
I have also found that clearancing the bushing is sometimes encessary when installing a nylon one. I have used fine sticky backed sandpaper on a deep socket in an air rachet before to slightly enlarge the hole. I have also sanded them shorter. +1 on the clearancing. Mine was so tight I could barely...

Re: Glove box liner
With AC it's a pain, but it can be done with a lot of wiggling and finagling. I believe that Clark's sells a slightly smaller box for LM AC cars (I used the regular size). If you ordered the flat (some assembly required box), I found that a hot glue gun worked a lot better than the staples used in t...

Re: Powerglide Trans for highway use?
I drive my 1966 convertible with PG at freeway speeds (65-75) for long distances (500-700) miles without problems. The engine is a weaker link than the PG.

Re: New site additions
I'm fine with the look, but would very much like a reduction in the number of topical categories. About half as many would increase my usage. Corvair Center has too few (one), but until the number of users increases substantially, this one has too many. Also, quite a few posts are in the wrong categ...
