1968 Ultra Van #328 "Turkel"
1968 95 hp Corvair powered Ultra Van #328 named "Turkel." We have had Turkel about four and a half years and driven almost 15,000 miles. We've been to two Ultra Van National Rallies in the middle of the country - Branson, MO and Hutchinson, KS - where over 90% of the Ultra Vans were built,...

Re: Corvair of the Month JULY 2018
1968 Corvair powered Ultra Van. This is coach #328. It has a 95 hp engine and Powerglide transmission. The paint and interior are over 35 years old. This coach has been and is still well loved as you can tell by the condition. We take it to cars shows and also vintage trailer rallies. We've driven i...

Re: Need Van dimensions
Sorry, haven't been on for a few days. Just to make your Thanksgiving better, we went out in the dark and cold (at least for Georgia) and took the measurements. These are straight line, not over the curves and the best we could do without some sort of laser measuring device. Taken from the 8 door. S...

Re: towing a corvair
No need to disconnect anything. The Vair PG will lube when towed with the rear wheels on the ground, unlike many other auto trans.

Re: towing a corvair
We have towed 3 on a dolly with a Tacoma PU. We have loaded them frontwards and backwards. Both methods worked. If you load backwards, be sure to secure the steering wheel with something like ratchet straps. DO NOT USE BUNGIE CORDS. Don't ask how I know this. A Corvair Powerglide came be towed with t...

Re: Ramp Truck ID ?
Your Rampside was the 13,535th vehicle off the line at St Louis for the 1961 production year. Each vehicle was sequentially numbered without regard to model number.

The letter "G" in the paint code indicates 2 tone paint on Loadside and rampside pickups. http://www.corvair.org/chapters/corvana ... ources.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Look under paint color chips and the Duco 1961 Chevy truck colors.

Re: 1961 Corvair Lakewood 700
The engine is a transplant whatever it is. It came out of a coupe or sedan. The dipstick and oil filler are in the wrong location for a wagon or FC. The oil filler/dipstick tube on a wagon exits the bottom of the block on the right side and passes to the right of the distributor. The fill cap/dipsti...

Re: trouble adjusting valves
For those of us that adjust valves occasionally, I like the technique described in the 65 manual. Instead of rotating the push rod. move it in and out. When it no longer moves, you are at zero lash. It requires a less sensitive feel and you can hear it. Then tighten the adjusting nut the required nu...

Re: U-Haul and Corvairs
I have heard of it. 2 of our club members own retired U-Haul trailers and a Corvair fits fine I had an issue with U-Haul on the phone, not wanting to rent me a car trailer. They did tell me it is up the local dealer to make the final decision. The local dealer took pity on me and rented the trailer....

Re: what number of the total produced
Is there any way to narrow down to a specific model number the vehicle was made. I have a 61 loadside and it shows it was the 17,296 made that year. Any way to tell how many loadsides were made before mine? There were only 2844 Loadsides built at 2 plants in 1961. http://www.corvair.org/chapters/co...

Re: CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS (Diagram)
The oil bath air pre-cleaner was RPO K47 in 1964 and later. It does not show up in the RPO list for 1963. The examples that I have seen were all on turbos, FCs and late model 4 carbs. They were all mounted at the rear of the engine compartment.

Re: CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS (Diagram)
Looks like another exception. Would appear that you have an optional oil bath air filter, or is that a desert air filter? I don't know the difference. You also have separate paper elements for each carb. Individual air filters equals PCV valve I have seen variations of your set up , but, not that ex...
