Vacuum gauge
I was watching part 2 of the tuneup video and it said to use the spark port tube on the carb to connect the vacuum gauge to test the carburator vacuum. Isn't the vacuum advance for the distributor connected to that port on the RH carb? I'm assuming that the car won't run if that is disconnected ...

Re: Syncing carbs
Watching video part 2; referring to connecting the vacuum gauge - isn't the vacuum advance for the distributor connected to the RH spark port tube? Do I connect the vacuum gauge tube to the port where the choke diaphragm is connected?

oil filters
Okay, I didn't see this topic specifically addressed, but I apologize if it is and I missed it. Can anybody recommend an off-the-shelf oil filter for a 110 Monza?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Just bought a 65 110 Monza
Hey, Did you ever put the half-moons on? I was thinking about doing the same thing. Used to have them on my '72 Nova.

Wheel bounce
Searched for this topic, but didn't see anything.
The front-end tires on my '65 convertible 'bounce' sometimes at moderate speeds (25-35mph). From the drivers perspective, it is like they are being dribbled like a basketball. I have tried the 8-10 lbs difference between rear/front tires, but still ...

Re: Syncing carbs
When I go to adjust the mixture screws, I barely notice any difference in rpms when I adjust the mix screw on the left carb. There is a noticable difference in the right carb adjustment. I actually got them balanced and synced and drove the car around for a while. BUT then I decided a little more ...

Re: Syncing carbs
Thanks for the responses guys.
I did keep the Unisyn at the same setting when I moved between carbs. I will start my trouble shooting with the simplier first - replacing the most loose vac hose. I take it I need to get a tachometer to do this job right, huh? Or are slight slight deviations from ...

Re: Syncing carbs
Of course "tinkering and fixing" leads to more "tinkering and fixing".
I got the carbs synced per the shop manual. I also used a UniSyn to double-check. It will idle in N, but shakes a bit in D and has a rhthymic "gasping". I figure I'm close, but so as I don't mess with anything that doesn't need ...

Syncing carbs
First - I apologize if there is a thread on this subject, but I didn't see any.
I was in the process of syncing the carbs on my '65 Monza, using the steps outlined in the shop manual and Bob Helt's Corvair Basics. I came across a proceedure I didn't understand. There were instructions near the end ...

Re: engine knock/missing carb screw
Flat6_musik's calibrated ear says that's merely a valve adjustment tick and no cause for sleepless nights. Readjust, my son, readjust.......:)

Re: engine knock/missing carb screw
I would just readjust the loose rockers and notice how easy or hard it is to turn the adjusting nut. Shouldn't be too easy to turn, otherwise they'll be coming loose often. Fresh locknuts, it IS a good idea.
I will get a new set of locknuts. It still bothers me though that it happened in the ...

Re: engine knock/missing carb screw
What does a broken vavle spring sound like? I had someone else tell me it sounded like a lifter/valve noise and I should readjust the valves. I HAVE noticed a couple of the rockers are loose when I have removed the valve cover AFTER adjusting the valves and running the engine. Should I just tighten ...

Re: engine knock/missing carb screw
Maybe it's just me, but that seems to be more of a tick than a knock. Are you sure the flywheel is good, and the valves are set up right? .
The engine coughed on a right turn and right after that started to make that noise. I was figuring that's when the screw passed by the valves and got into the ...

Re: engine knock/missing carb screw
Well, I got it back together and it's STILL knocking. I will post a video so others can listen to the sound. I didn't see anything in the other cylinders or any other damage on the head. The sound now seems to be originating from the center of the engine; under the fan. Hindsight,I should have ...

Re: engine knock/missing carb screw
I am having a recurring nightmare about head gaskets. I'm sure I cleaned the gasket surface well before installing the gaskets, but I can't shake this feeling that a piece of carbon found it's way between the gasket somewhere. Before I reassemble everything, is there a way to tell if I am going to ...
