Re: Identification of nitrided crankshaft

I thank you for the excellent and timely reply/illustrated examples to my question. That is what I find so valuable about the corvair community in general and the forums in particular; the depth of knowledge available on line. Much better than " learning from experience" don't ya know!! Se...

Re: 140HP - PG Engine- timing question

Do you mean use an adjustable gear or offset key on the mating cam gear?

Re: 140HP - PG Engine- timing question

So the crank gear is the "retarded" gear! It figures, since the cam gear is easier to change and will be replaced when I change the cam - ( I am building a turbo motor) Thanks for the quick replies (even if it was not the one I was hoping for! :td: )

140HP - PG Engine- timing question

I have a 65-66 140HP engine that was attached to PG. I believe these engine came from factory with "retarded" timing. My question is whether this was done with a "retarded" gear on the crank or "retarded" gear on the cam. I ask as I want to convert to "conventional...

Re: Chrome Trim - quarter window- 64 vert

I thank you both for the reply and suggestions! I have been buried in other projects, however I think I can see "light at the end of the tunnel" (although I am aware that statistically it is almost always a train!) :tu:

Re: repair of spyder glovebox door trim

cad-kid; I had not seen this fix, but it helps. Appreciate the info. The posting I was looking for listed the wire drill size and the size of the screws that were then used. It didn't mention using a drill press and I had thought about using my Dremil tool, but hoped to get the drill and screw sizes...

repair of spyder glovebox door trim

Several months ago (I hide my own easter eggs), I saw posting covering the repair of trim on spyder glovebox door. I thought I had save this posting, however apparently such is not the case! :dontknow: My question is whether anyone might recall/have saved this posting? It covered drilling and tappin...

Chrome Trim - quarter window- 64 vert

How is the chrome trim on the leading edge of the quarter window on 64 convertible retained on the glass. When I got my 64 spyder convertible, I found that the quarter window on the drivers side had the chrome trim pulled loose from the window edge. Apparently when they replaced the top, they got th...

Re: EM Front suspension rebuild

One last comment relative to use of Dot 5 brake fluid for the street - Don't! Dot 5 fluid is not hydroscopic, and as such does not absorb moisture like Dot 3 and 4. It was designed for racing, where it's higher resistance to fade from heat is valuable, however in a race car the fluid is serviced fre...

Re: Spyder/Corsa Cylinder Head Temp Gauge Thermistor

Unfortunately, I have still not solved the question of the non-operative CHT gauge. This is after 3 different thermistors (used of course), 2 different dash gauges, and a completely new wiring harness (Engine Comp, Chassis and Dash Harnesses! So for the time being, I have moved on to other projects ...

Re: Proper fan on Alternator

I am thinking you need to get the correct fan/pulley set up, the 64 fan has a shield on it and is completely different than the correct alternator pulley fan. Yes, the 64 fan has a shield on it, however it is on the "pulley side" of the fan, rather than being on the alternator side, as mo...

Re: Proper fan on Alternator

You put a Gen fan on a Alternator? Do you have a picture? I will attempt to get a picture of it and post it. It is the one piece fan-pulley that was on my 64 spyder engine. I used the internal spacer (approx. 1/2 in) from the "new" internal reg alternator behind the 37 amp "end housi...

Re: Proper fan on Alternator

I thank the members for their reply to my inquiry. After running all over town looking for a proper "reverse flow" fan for my conversion (to no avail I might add!) In desperation, it occurred to me that the only reverse fan I had seen was the one on my generator - upon test fitting it to m...

Proper fan on Alternator

I am in process of converting my 64 Spyder convertible from a generator to the alternator. I gathered what I thought were the necessary parts for the conversion, which I thought was a "no brainer", as I was going to pull the necessary parts off one of the 65 140 motors I had been "sto...
