installing lights in 1963-64 fake rear vents

Everybody seems to "have heard of" someone who has done this but I'll be damned if I can find any photos or firsthand details on how. Those "vents" just beg to be made functional with high mounted brake and turn lights. Imagine a series of LED's that sequentially blink Mercury Co...

Re: EM rear speakers in rear cargo area

Nice to find this topic, as I am thinking about doing something like that in my 64 coupe. The one question I did not see covered is, if you use that area for speakers, should you line the rear "cubby" area behind the speakers with anything or not? It's now your sound box for the speakers. ...

Re: Do I need to use an external ballast resistor w/ Echlin

Well, the new coil is in place and everything seems to be fine, although given the lateness of the hour all I did was run the car in the garage. (With the Eagles game followed immediately by the World Series this was not a day for great feats of personal productivity!) The old coil says Delco-Remy o...

Do I need to use an external ballast resistor w/ Echlin coil

This is probably an extremely dumb question, but I hope folks will bear with me. I've got a '64 with base engine and as far as I know a stock points ignition setup with an OEM style coil of indeterminate age. The coil statred arcing and then basically gave up the ghost. I found that my nearby NAPA s...

Re: Ramps do you use them?

I have a set of plastic ramps that are at least 10-12 years old. The heaviest car I used them with was a '74 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham with no problem, so no worries that they will hold up a Corvair. I have used them to change oil on my '64 and did not have any clearance problems. I have always found...

Re: Has anyone ever attempted this from South Africa

Yikes . . . I am sure anything is doable, but putting two halves of a unibody car together like that has to be EXACTLY right or the whole car would be misaligned. Since you are planning the RHD conversion anyway, do your laws prohibit you from importing a whole coupe if you agree to make it RHD?

Re: 61 corvair installing pertronix ignition

Back to that source of 12 volts thing, what is the best way to do that other than running a wire all the way back from the ignition switch? Probably one of the few things harder to do on a Corvair because the engine is back here and the ign switch is way up there.

Re: My 61 700 Coupe

Austin, the car looks GREAT at that show! Is that the same paint, buffed out? If so, wow. One thing I would suggest you do right away is get a battery hold-down. If the battery can slide back and forth, the positive terminal can get very close to grounded metal (it is on the photo). It wouldn't take...

Looks really good to me from these pics. So many of these were used hard and show it, but not this one; that body is very straight.

Re: Starter disengages during starting

You should not need non-standard solenoids and such like. Most problems like this are flywheel related. I know you said you inspected the flywheel. if you are SURE there are NO bad teeth on the flywheel, the other thing I would check is whether somehow the starter and flywheel are not lined up prope...

Re: Overheating Issues

Also: (1) make sure the engine to body gasket is present and in good shape all around. The purpose of that gasket is to keep the hot and cool air separate. Without it you are sucking heated air back into the cooling system. (2) Make sure the air doors are opening up when the engine warms up.

That last pic looks a bit scary. What happened to that cylinder?
