Re: Backfire through carburator
@wittsend so I think no matter what I need to remove the distributor. The vacuum advance is swiveling around it only has one screw in it and it's moving all over the place. The advance engages and pulls it up and sticks. The points plate moves a fair amount to the point it's tough to even set the ...

Re: Backfire through carburator
So, only a month into corvair ownership and I've learned A Lot! But I'm still not an expert!!! What gives?! 🤣 I seem to be having a similar issue. Replaced points, condenser, cap and rotor, but still having a hell of a time. Timing seems close, but vacuum advance keeps getting stuck and when that ha ...

Just learned about this! I'm in travelers rest SC! Unfortunately "Sunday" isn't quite in running condition yet, and we already have plans this weekend

Fuel pump from O'Reilly's?
Got the 61 running in a decent manner until the fuel pump went and flooded my crank case and spewed fuel and oil everywhere!!!! Now time to change the oil and replace the fuel pump. Looks like Clark's no longer has any manual pump options. Amazon has a couple with very poor reviews. Has anyone tried ...

Ok. I'll get on checking all the rubber connections. I forgot to post this yesterday. But here a a photo of the plugs. All the plugs on the right bank look pretty good. All the plugs on left bank look like this.

New to the forum and the car! 61' 4dr 700.
Hi. My name is Xander. I'm in Travelers Rest SC. Greenville county. I'm new to the forum and the car. Picked up a 61' 4dr last Friday. It would run but just barely with no power at all. I replaced plugs and wires and slightly adjusted the distributor. Was running great until I got gas later that day ...

Re: South Carolina people
Well it just started raining like crazy. So my work for the day is done! Lol. So I checked again the fuel flow. Seems like a strong stream in each carb. Got a timing light, and as expected it's so far advanced I can't even see the marks. If I retard it enough for them to even come into view the ...

Re: South Carolina people
Ok. So I try this morning after the battery tender on all night and it fires right up? Even went into gear and backed it to level land. I'm new to these but excited to learn. I'm sure the problem isn't fixed! I'm thinking fouled plugs? A few things to note. I replaced the plugs and wires first thing ...
