Re: Convertible prices. Am I being realistic?

Strangely enough, there is not much difference in getting a car from NZ as compared to the US and all the local charges (and there are many) still apply. I'd rather look for a car where there is a greater choice.

Re: Convertible prices. Am I being realistic?

I agree that even west coast cars can be rusty. It really depends upon how they are used and how well they are stored. I think initially I will take my time and confine my search to California and see what comes up. Having a 'Corvair buddy' will be ideal and if I find something that appears suitable...

Re: Convertible prices. Am I being realistic?

Thanks for those suggestions. I would prefer to buy from a private seller if possible. I have been following prices for a couple of months now across several different sources including Hemmings, Craig's List, Bring a Trailer, eBay and the discussion groups on Facebook. There are quite a few cars in...

Convertible prices. Am I being realistic?

Hi all I'm from Australia and new to the forum. I would love to bring over a Corvair convertible but as with most things it will come down to the cost. Corvairs are rare in OZ especially the convertibles and the cost of getting one is pretty high, so I need to factor in the purchase cost in the USA....

Re: New Member Saying Hi

Thanks for that info. I didn't know there was a difference between LM and EM convertibles in terms of rust. Mind you, there is a lot I don't know about Corvairs! I do enjoy the learning curve though. A southwestern car would be a good choice not only due to the drier climate but also the proximity t...

Re: New Member Saying Hi

Thanks everyone for that detailed information. It is very helpful. Unfortunately, we are not exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to Corvairs down under. The only one I can find currently listed is a sad looking 65 Monza coupe with its engine out. I'm not at the point where I can go ahead yet bu...

Re: New Member Saying Hi

I prefer the look of the early models but to be honest I'd be happy with either. A friend who imports cars from the States recommended that a later model would be a better choice in terms of usability.

New Member Saying Hi

G'Day everyone I've just joined the forum. I'm from Sydney, Australia and have developed a real fascination for Corvairs. They are very rare here in Oz and I've only seen one in the flesh once, a long time ago. I have owned lots of classic cars over the years, and am the current custodian of a 1974 ...
