Re: 2 Parts Cars for FREE
This would be a great "Starter Kit" for the next guy who aspires to be Joel. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Re: We TRIED to Help CORSA Fix the Serious Issues with The Corvair Center Forum – Read Our Letter and Their Response HER
I wonder if using C0RSA (that's a narrower zero, not a wider "O") would be an infringement??? Just asking because it came to mind. Not looking to step in this fight.

Re: Engine Stand, easy question to answer
Good work Wittsend. The only problem is I have a severe aversion to HF. ...... Anyway, Hence forth I buy a lot of used tools. But there good tools. Well, the milk crate is probably USA made. :-) Yes, I too buy a lot of older tools. Even the 1970's era Taiwanese stuff was OK - for the price (and lik...

Re: Engine Stand, easy question to answer
To quote Charles Bronson in the movie Breakout, " There are ways..., and there are ways ." Some of us just find ways out of necessity. Whoever designed that milk crate just knew someday it would be used to assemble a Corvair engine and placed the metal rods accordingly. Later it went on th...

Re: EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening
" Upon further review... ," my recollection of the trans mounts was with the car on stands and the powerpack weight pulling them downward they somehow looked better. As is obvious in the pictures they are rather worn. It was only the other day this car (sitting for 29 years that I owned it...

Re: EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening
Thank you for your replies. I had a lot on my "plate" the past few days and it made my "plate" theoretically too heavy and I hurt my back. Hopefully I can get the car jacked up and I'll look at the transmission mounts soon. I did observe them before everything went back in and th...

EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening
After 4-1/2 years of in depth work on my Lakewood..., the past 4 months waiting for the California DMV cycle to register (they charge you for a whole year even if it is one day from the new Reg. cycle) I FINNALY drove the car on the road for the first time today. When accelerating I don't hear any s...

Re: Rust removal project
You will have to get the paint and other things sticking to the floor off but at first glance the floors look acceptable to fix. Be sure to have an ear (noise) protector and I recommended a full face shield for your eyes. Those wires in the brush do snap off. I find the brushes that are shaped like ...

Re: Headlight Adjustment Bracket
As mentioned you have to remove the headlight bucket. The fender can't be "taken apart" (removed) unless you cut it out. It is a pain to get up in there through the back side of the wheel opening. The nuts are buried under undercoating and 60+ years of grime. Mine were found under a simila...

Your Daily Dose of Zinc Philosophy (DDZP)
Interesting presentation on Zinc (ZDDP) with actual testing. That said the emphasis seems to be on ring wear, not cam wear. Likely because so many cars today use roller lifters. To me the most interesting part of the presentation is the max Zinc levels in various oils today. I don't believe I've eve...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
The Pertronix site states the Pertronix (1) operates within a 9-12 volt range. For those cars that us a ballast resistor there should be no reason not to use the INPUT side of the resistor (which nominally should be 12 volts). Unfortunately I think a lot of people unknowingly use the OUTPUT of the r...

Re: Corvair Carbs Value $ (found in a strange place)
I've been going to this show/swap for over 30 years (there are Spring and Fall events). And, yes, it is about half the size it use to be back in the 90's, at least the swap area. But admission is free and the distance is half of that to Pomona or Long Beach. Just gas, parking and admission to Pomona...

Re: Corvair Carbs Value $ (found in a strange place)
The guy started at $40 for the set (2 carbs, cross over shaft). I stood there a second contemplating and said, "$20" (figuring he'd counter) and he immediately said "Yes." He wasn't even sure what they were for. It was a Mopar show/swap and he just seemed glad to get rid of them....

Corvair Carbs Value $ (found in a strange place)
I went to the Mopar Spring Fling in Van Nuys today. As I walked through the swap area I glanced at a table with carburetors. Something caused me to glance back and I noticed two Corvair carbs still attached to the cross shaft. Corvair parts at a Mopar swap??? As best I can tell they were '62/'63 car...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Question
Think about it, you are going to the electric fuel pump because of concerns (redundancy) about the mechanical pump,..., but you are wanting to rely on the mechanical pump if the electric pump fails. It brings me to the question as to what would be so difficult to change out the electric pump? Is it ...

Re: Building a modded FI 140 for my Wagon
I spent an early 20's Summer getting raw fingers at Talley Corp. that assembled aircraft parts (like canopy actuators). We had to safety wire all the screws. It took some learning because the tension had to be such that it pulled (or at least held) the screw in the tightened position and the wire di...
