Re: Leaky Leaky
It could also be coming out of the adjuster o-ring at the axle seal. After clean look real close to see how high up the leak starts.

Re: What is this? Vent?
Your missing a part that goes between the 3" round hole in the top shroud and the opening the fire wall. It is for cooler air to enter the heater to be used for blending the temp of the heater. Most people block off the hole in the top shroud to make the cooling air go over the cylinder head. I...

Re: New Member, New Corvair Owner
Yes, you need to pull the bucket to get in the trunk. There are good odds that the factory seam sealer isn't doing its job anymore as that is a common rust problem between the bucket and the body. On a '65 some of the upper screws are machine screws and they like to break off after all of these year...

Re: Leaky Leaky
In the pictures you can see the diff drain plug but I couldn't see one on the trans. It might be a '64 or '5 trans? The 3 bolts holding on the throttle pivot don't match so someone has been there before.

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
I've always heard that the coil is suppose to run cooler when mounted on the frame but I've never seen any data to support this claim. The cylinder head is a huge heat sink with air blown past it. Then there is the tin shrouding between the head and the outside world. The coil bracket is also a pede...

Re: Leaky Leaky
In the first picture the diff fill plug is above the exhaust pipe between the axle and the bell housing. The trans fill plug is the bolt in the center of the big red washer. The bolt isn't very tall so be careful so that you don't round it off.

Re: Modified Oil Filter Bolt Woes
If we knew your general location someone close by might have a bolt that they would sell. Not all new cars have oil pressure gauges. Alot of people these days can't figure out an idiot light I don't think they would miss a gauge. Now I'm not against a gauge but I've driven my conv all over the count...

A 9/16" Chevy dist wrench has worked good for me to hold the top bolt.

Re: New Member, New Corvair Owner
I would try alittle lube in the lock before taking out the headlights. You know it will open so I would lube and then wiggle and giggle the key while pushing down on the lid.

Re: Engine suddenly pooped out.
I would be checking the carb on the right side. If you put your hand over it does it make the engine run any different?. Since the right thermostatic door didn't open it sounds like it's not making any heat on the right side.

Re: Engine mystery
Pushrods have oil holes in the center of both ends. The "upper" end also has a side hole to lube the rocker ball and the valve stem. The hole in the center at the rocker arm lubes the rocker arm to pushrod socket.

Re: Engine mystery
I would think that with too much lash you could have less oil at the rocker because it was dripping at the lifter. If it was quiet, and now is loose unless you know a seat came out I would run it until they pump back up before doing anything. Yes a seat can go out and come back in. I worked on a car...

Re: Engine mystery
I would not adjust the valves unless there is a reason to. Hydraulic lifters don't need to be adjusted unless there is a reason.

Re: New Member. 87 Octane gas
It sounds like the idle circuit is the problem. I would remove the mixture screws and then blow out the passage with compressed air. Reinstall the screws and gently seat them. Then back them out 2 turns and see how it runs. If it seems to be running good when warmed up then fine tune as needed.

Re: Will not Turn over
You don't need to unhook the connecter just back probe it. I would maybe back probe from both sides. They should have the same results but if they don't you might have just found the problem.
