Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

I don't know if anyone said it yet but I might wonder about the point plate pivot. If you have a Dwell Meter you might see if dwell remains steady when you rev the engine. If not you might wonder bout the distributor shaft bushing. Please forgive me if those things were already discussed. Jim Brand...

Re: Electric Corvair ---

Frank your replies are logical, but you can't win against folks that engage in "magical thinking". Best to avoid them as you can't win with irrational folks. A buddy used to say "Don't waste your time trying to teach a pig to whistle. Pigs CANNOT whistle and it annoys the pig if you t...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Question

Thanks Frank. Actually reason #5 is important to me. Using an electric pump to push the fuel through a healthy, but idle, mechanical pump provides a level of redundancy. If the electric pump fails, then I re-install the pushrod for the mechanical pump and proceed down the road. But my questions is,...

Re: Pebbles The 64 Corvair Monza Converible

Hmmmm. Broken starter snout. "Replacing clutch and flexplate" (flexplate ?). Make sure you get the correct pressure plate bolts. They aren't regular bolts and help to center the pressure plate on the flywheel. Dennis I noticed the broken starter nose. Yes for awhile Clark's was selling th...

He didn't say anything about watching any other news or being afraid of homosexuals. Listen to either of the mentioned sources for 5 minutes and you'll see he is correct. Also a gasoline tank doesn't explode or burst into flames when hit like batteries do. Well Joel I guess you never read about the...

Re: LCA Bushing Orientation

Thanks! I read some of your previous posts about that, and I do tighten the bushing with weight on the front end. What torque value do you use to tighten the camber nut? The manual says something like 110 ft./lbs., and that has to be a misprint. The last time I torqued it to 65 or 70. Your welcome ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

I do appreciate all the information Brad puts out, and most of it is valuable. That said the "3.0 ohm High Performance coil" is a myth. The Corvair 65-66 140HP and turbo engines used a high performance DELCO coil at about 1.3 ohms with the stock 1.8 ohm ballast for a total or about 3.1 ohm...

Hydrogen Powered V8 - 440HP

With all the talk of EV's replacing the ICE engine vehicles it appears the ICE engine will around for awhile, but will produce much lower emissions. Sure maybe only in specialty cars but if there is a buyer someone will make it. Some of the Japanese manufacturers joined up to produce a 440HP V8 engi...

Re: LCA Bushing Orientation

I've had an issue with my LCA bushings on my '65 (they're pushing out the rubber and I'm getting a steel on steel squeak). I replaced a bad one that was 15 years old last fall and the new bushing is already toasted, so I'm double checking things. Does the bushing enter the passenger LCA from the ba...

Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

You probably have a lean surge and not an actual misfire. Try increasing the main jet size by a couple of thousandths and I'll bet it goes away. On a 65/66 140 the primary carburetors had a power enrichment circuit to deal with a lean condition at certain throttle openings aggravated with the use o...

Re: Clark's Corvair Catalog as PDF

Once I got old I realized I had a TON of paper articles. Trying to find things got time consuming. I scanned or downloaded things to the computer and it made searching so much easier. NOT THAT I TRUST THE COMPUTER NOT TO LOOSE EVERYTHING! I double back up files to external drives and keep critical i...

Glad you got it working. Yes the NEW switches are not as "robust" as the originals. I do dismantle the old switches and clean the inner contacts and lube them with dielectric grease, BUT they were NOT meant to be dismantled and repaired. I break the Bakelite housings on about one out of fi...

Got my U pipes from Clark's today. Inside diameter of the pipe exit measured 1.75" ID with my digital mic. Muffler inlet for the Dynamax 17731's is 2.25" ID. This adapter surfing is driving me to drink....... My favorite saying is "This is as bad as working on an exhaust system...

Brad - Your concerns are valid and I have little doubt the government mandates will be rolled back or delayed. The fuel mileage mandate was rolled back recently due the fact the automotive industry presented valid data to show the target date was unrealistic, BUT IT IS ATTAINABLE. Like being married...

the secondary carburetors are closed fully. There should be no or only a slight air flow at idle and make sure they don't open until about 2/3rds gas pedal depression (do not open at highway speeds of less than 70MPH [/color] 70 MPH? Then you might as well have a 110 HP if you drive around town, st...

Re: WTB Turbo cam

Straighten it. All it takes is a dial indicator, some v-blocks, a dull chisel and hammer. Yes straighten it, although how to do it explanations vary. Sometimes during shipping they get bent. I had a brand new Isky cam that was fine in the "V" blocks (used a good dial indicator). The "...
