Re: Secondary lean tip in?
First - I goofed as it was a Bentley that used the box, not RR. Back then they were basically the same car. Second - I've noticed that these old carburetor accelerator pump bores are getting worn and sometimes you don't get a shot of fuel until the cup moves some. Also there is a check ball in the b...

Re: Secondary lean tip in?
I'm assuming you are blowing boost pressure through stock carburetors. Excuse me if you thought of this ------ back in the days of blow through carburetor turbocharging one issue was the fuel float bowls were pressurized (as they should be to make the cluster work) which in effect was like lowering ...

Re: I need help understanding the engine
Good advice from Craig. So many changes were made after the 1960 models they are considered unique. Many value the 1960 cars because they are so different from other Corvairs. Trying to start an old engine by just getting new fuel to the carburetors might result in avoidable damage to the engine. I ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
Thanks Seth for the HEI history. Yes I remember the overheated coil packs in the distributor caps. Back in the day if you had an HEI acting up you looked to see if the laminated material was discolored from excess heat. I had a 90 Corvette and not knowing any better at the time, I put in an "Hi...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
I'm glad your having a great conversation about coils. Interesting. But my alternator is only charging at between 12 and 12.5 volts And the fan light is on. It must have been doing this all the while since the light has been on since I got a higher output alternator rebuilt for the car. It should b...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
I guess Brad's rant was aimed at me since I'm the one who has stated the Pertronix instructions are vague and sometimes misunderstood. I'm now sure why he as such trust in Pertronix when the facts contradict what he is saying about "trusting them". Maybe he works for them. Fact -- Nothing ...

Re: Corvair Carbs Value $ (found in a strange place)
My philosophy for several years now has been Corvair parts aren't worth anything until someone needs something. Every Corvair I work on seems to come with one or more boxes of random crap. I don't throw away many carburetors in case I need something but I don't often pay anything for them either. 6...

Re: New here
Well I shouldn't have bragged on my 10 year old Maxxis tires. Still no cracks but one came apart. It was only in the 9th year. I've had perfectly good looking tires separate internally and bulge or COME APART!!! They were always over eight years old. While there are no regulations about how long yo...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
What evidence do you have that 3 ohm coils don't have 3 ohms worth of windings and have a resistor instead? I couldn't find any info one way or the other. Some might have 3 ohms of internal windings, I've never found one without the internal ballast --- Why? Simple economics. Extra windings cost MO...

Re: Fuel injection with coil packs
If I were adapting from an existing car, Craigs use of Fiero parts would be much better than off a newer car, imo, there's just too many things controlled my current ecm's. I drive an'12 Sonata turbo, love it, great car. Last year it suddenly, and without warning, started cutting out, almost as if ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
Craig's diagram is good. Never assume the colored wires are going to the expected place.
I usually find EM conversions with many patches and kludged wiring. I usually cut it all out and simplify the number of wires and connections.
I solder and heat shrink any splices.

Re: ? About LM Verts
Chevy galvanized the front and rear floor frame boxes, unfortunately they did NOT galvanize the extra bracing in the rockers and end boxes. Even dry state cars will have some rust in these areas. Surface rust is acceptable. Once the rust really progresses you have a "flexy flyer". I have o...

Re: Fuel injection with coil packs
Craig covered it. The Hyundai ECU (or any modern ECU) handles a lot of inputs to control the engine. Some are to keep the driver out of trouble or assist in "emergency" maneuvers. There are folks who know how to manipulate factory software, but it is NOT something the average person can do...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Question
If the fuel pump quits working when the oil pressure light comes on you can't fill the carburetors before starting the engine. I prefer an inertia switch under the dash in case of an accident along with a toggle switch in case I want to turn the pump off with the key on like when working on the ign...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
That all stands to reason. I guess the big question now is, is my Stinger ignition one of the cheap ones? I've been really happy with it, I mean it seems to be consistent. No dealing with points etc etc. But frankly, I've pushed my 140 and it's responded well, but I wonder if on one of those occasi...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Question
Brad made a good point about using a fuel filter. Some of the electric fuel pumps come with a little fuel filter that will plug up fast if the car has an older fuel tank. You can use an inline universal fuel filter with a 5/16" hose fitting. Just make sure it has a metal case, not plastic and n...
