Re: '66 Sprint Convertible resto aka "my first car/first Corvair"
Great job. Nice to see the emergency brake handle refinished. I've seen too many Corvairs with great interiors, but with a chipped, cruddy, and rusty E brake handle The little stud on the back or the wiper switch holds a spring clip inside the wiper switch that can loose contact with the wiper switc...

Re: Stiff steering
Good fix, was the old nylon bushing totally mangled/deformed? Sounds like the old idler arm was not the problem, so hang onto it. As you know, new ones ain't cheap. One of the Vairs I bought had a "mangled" nylon pitman arm bushing. On the advice of a few folks I respect, I installed the ...

Re: Late Model Heater Rebuild Start to Finish.
I have a pair of 1966 Corvairs (Corsa convertible and 4-Door Sedan) that could both use a little refreshing in the heater fan department. I will try to duplicate your successful effort — using your photos as a model! :tu: :goodpost: :ty: :coolphotos: Once the assembly was out of the car, I made the...

Re: heater fan motor
Years ago I tested a standard heater fan and a high volume one for amp draw. The standard was 10 amps draw and the high volume was 15. This was hooked to a battery with the fan on just held in my hand. I've been running a high volume with a 15 amp fuse thru the stock switch and wiring for at least ...

Re: which transaxle oil to use
Well Doug ---- as you have read there is no shortage of "lubricant" advice. BTW Powerglide tranaxles can use GL-5, only the manual transmissions requires GL-4. You may see "GL-4/GL-5" and that is really GL-5. To summarize - IF you are not going racing the basic GL-4 80W90 is fine...

Re: heater fan motor
I must apologize for stating I haven't had an issue using the 10Amp fuse with the new heater blower as that was INCORRECT. Since both my 66 cars have Air Conditioning, the heater/Air Cond specifies a 20 Amp fuse in place of the 10 Amp fuse. Unfortunately I have not found the amperage specifications ...

Re: Painting dos and donts
Yeah, best advice is ask around. I had my Subaru Baja painted a year ago. Small one man shop, he was recommended by several people because he did a good job on their cars. As I always do, I removed all the trim so there would be no masking. He does do insurance work (where my friends found out abou...

Re: heater fan motor
I can report that my friend put in the Clarks high flow heater fan and the high position switch failed after a few operations. He was also blowing 10 amp fuses until switch failed. Clark's never informed him that he needed to run 15 amp fuses. Same issue I had 5 years ago with blowing 10 amp fuses ...

Re: Painting on anodized wheels
I'm pretty surprised to read the GTA wheels are thought to be anodized. All the GM wheels I've had were painted in the colored or plain-silver areas, machined or polished in the shiny areas, and then clear-coated. I've always thought the clear coat was a clear paint product. The IROC an Z28 wheels I...

Re: Advice on new windshield, 66 Monza Coupe
I have my glass installed by a pro; it's super cheap, $50 or $75 depending on complexity. Corvairs are simple so low end of that range. LM windshields are DW659 and my guy gets them from the local PPG warehouse. First, he primes the area where the urethane lands with a brush-on primer. Next the ure...

This spring I want get my65 Monza convertible painted/ repainted . Not getting a complete taken apart paint job but a decent one. What specifics should I request for the job and about an average what should I pay for it? Live in lower Delaware. Should I get the inside sprayed while I’m at it and ex...

Re: 1965 Corsa Seat Belt Bolts
The seat belt bolts in my 65 and 66 are 7/16-20 and 1 1/4" long. That's quite a bit shorter than the ones you posted. BTW, I use socket wrenches on them all the time. I don't understand the prior comment about not using sockets. Some of the front seat belt vinyl covers were made so the anchor ...

The other issue is UPS decided to stop shipping for "smaller" customers (as Clark's discovered) that resulted in less competition. Not true. UPS will ship for a customer that ships one package a month. They dont care as long as the customer is paying the monthly pick up service fee UPS wi...

So hosewarehouse is 325 degrees but we don't know if has favorable flexibility and a slightly larger inside diameter like the stuff from whiteheadindustrial that is 250 degrees. Since I don't need any today I hope to get updated reports on the two kinds. hosewarehouse on flexibility and ease of put...
