Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

You probably have a lean surge and not an actual misfire. Try increasing the main jet size by a couple of thousandths and I'll bet it goes away. On a 65/66 140 the primary carburetors had a power enrichment circuit to deal with a lean condition at certain throttle openings aggravated with the use o...

Re: Clark's Corvair Catalog as PDF

Once I got old I realized I had a TON of paper articles. Trying to find things got time consuming. I scanned or downloaded things to the computer and it made searching so much easier. NOT THAT I TRUST THE COMPUTER NOT TO LOOSE EVERYTHING! I double back up files to external drives and keep critical i...

Re: Instrument cluster lighting

Glad you got it working. Yes the NEW switches are not as "robust" as the originals. I do dismantle the old switches and clean the inner contacts and lube them with dielectric grease, BUT they were NOT meant to be dismantled and repaired. I break the Bakelite housings on about one out of fi...

Re: More Muffler Chatter

Got my U pipes from Clark's today. Inside diameter of the pipe exit measured 1.75" ID with my digital mic. Muffler inlet for the Dynamax 17731's is 2.25" ID. This adapter surfing is driving me to drink....... My favorite saying is "This is as bad as working on an exhaust system...

Brad - Your concerns are valid and I have little doubt the government mandates will be rolled back or delayed. The fuel mileage mandate was rolled back recently due the fact the automotive industry presented valid data to show the target date was unrealistic, BUT IT IS ATTAINABLE. Like being married...

Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

the secondary carburetors are closed fully. There should be no or only a slight air flow at idle and make sure they don't open until about 2/3rds gas pedal depression (do not open at highway speeds of less than 70MPH [/color] 70 MPH? Then you might as well have a 110 HP if you drive around town, st...

Re: WTB Turbo cam

Straighten it. All it takes is a dial indicator, some v-blocks, a dull chisel and hammer. Yes straighten it, although how to do it explanations vary. Sometimes during shipping they get bent. I had a brand new Isky cam that was fine in the "V" blocks (used a good dial indicator). The "...

Thank you Bill! I know, other forum, but, you answered the what license plate lens fit what years. :rolling: It is amazing how many people do not know the 61 and 62 cars came without license plate lamp lenses. Just a rubber "washer/o-ring/grommet" on the lamp to keep water out of the sock...

Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

When I was fighting my lean condition from my secondaries opening too soon unhooking the vacuum advance would make it run better. Unless the points plate is loose and changing dwell as the vacuum advance moves then unplugging it is just covering up what the problem truly is. Agree, although I occas...

Re: '66 Sprint Convertible resto aka "my first car/first Corvair"

Nice job Craig. I never got into that kind of detail on old cars until I had the time due to retirement. When folks ask me why it took so long to finish the car I show them the pictures, or have them look under the car. It is nice to keep busy, I've seen too many friends "retire" and just ...

Brad -- Just for fun I follow the "business" side of the EV car and all your concerns are being addressed. First thing to know is this is not a bunch of ignorant folks FORCING things on the public. The automotive business is HUGE and folks are looking at all the issues to MAKE THIS PROFITA...

Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

Some great comments so far. I just noticed you may have a 66 engine in your 65. Oh Boy! Just my experience, but the 66 carburetors have an issue with corrosion. The 66 model primaries had a revised idle circuit with a small vertical slot above the mixture needle hole in the throat of the carburetor....

Re: shocks and springs 65 Corsa

I installed the Clark's regular shocks in my car (LM coupe and previously in a LM 4 door). Of course, they're great quality and were easy to install. For being the regular (not gas) shocks, they were a bit stiffer than I anticipated but I'm okay with that. Been doing a lot of reading on this, as we...

Re: Electric Corvair ---

A basic problem with a all electric Corvair is that the body just doesnt allow for a lot of room for batterys so the range ends up being fairly limited unless radical surgery is done. I've been thinking about how an FC could be a pretty good candidate for an EV conversion. The central level floor w...

Re: Electric Corvair ---

No, its a real Turbocharger, meaning the exhaust "runs" the compressor, but has a big powerfull electric motor between the exhaust turbine and the inlet compressor and can spin the turbo to 200000 rpm. Garret has been a pioneer on these systems https://www.garrettmotion.com/knowledge-cent...

Re: 140 miss at constant speed only

I've seen this before. The ones I've fixed were caused by poor contact at the points-plate grounding spring. Vacuum advance only occurs at cruise and when it advances, the points plate moves and the grounding spring loses contact between its moving and fixed element. Good comment. A common fix is t...
