Source for 7/8" single master cylinder for Corvair
A fellow in our club installed a 1" Corvair single master cylinder to work his hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. The pedal throw was short and pedal pressure was high. The vendor told him to use a 7/8" master cylinder. He wanted one that would bolt up like the 1" GM unit. The EM Corvai...

Re: Timing Light Questions
First thing to check is that the outer ring on the balancer hasn't slipped. (very common problem) There should be an alignment notch between the inner hub and outer ring. Next the key between the balancer and crank could be missing or sheared. Joel - That's what I was thinking. The alignment notch ...

Re: Newbie to Covairs
tsw -- sounds like good reasoning. It is getting tough to buy rusty hulks cheap to part out as scrap prices are up. A neighbor had an old T-bird and the local parts pick yourself yard offered him $200.00. He went to the scrap recycle yard that gave him $1,500.00!!!!!!!!! This old T-bird was a junker...

Re: Mystery part on my throttle system
Seth --- The 110HP engine did not use the 24 degree timing tab on the engine end cover, just the A/C cars. Some might see that and assume it is the California "emissions control" engine that is not considered desirable. Now you know it the 110HP, PG, A/C engine is not the standard 110HP en...

Re: Timing Light Questions
I once had someone with the timing mark moving all over the place --- he had the "pickup sensor" of the timing light on the coil wire, not the #1 plug wire.

I'd suggest getting the cross shaft as it is different. Shaft has serrated/knurled area so cross shaft lever (tab) will not slip.Wagon Master wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 4:46 pm Please message me if you are interested in selling the A/C solenoid and cross shaft tab.

Re: Vented & Unvented Gas Tank Filler Caps
This topic was covered here recently. The "vented" caps have a one-way valve that lets air IN (as the engine consumes gasoline), but will NOT LET FUMES/AIR OUT. Someone posted the caps will vent out at 1-2PSI, but the caps I had DID NOT as they had a flap. Most remove the flap, but the loc...

Re: WTB Six NOS LM STD Barrels
If I bump it out to .004 or so (.002 on each side) with forged pistons I don't notice any piston slap either. On a somewhat related related note, I sure take apart a lot of engines that have the piston arrow pointing to the harmonic balancer and not to the front of the engine. I've read that the &q...

Jeff, thanks for the reply. Apparently someone posted you don't sell the "Power Ace Bando" because you are selling the wholesale Bando belt that is NOT labeled.CACorvairs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 11:36 am Bando "Power Ace" belts as you know them (with the yellow label) are no longer sold in the retail market.

Re: Selection of the Right Motor Oil for the Corvair and other Engines - Richard Widman
Unfortunately, the information to the right of the slash in the API symbol and certification is somewhat optional, and often determined by marketing, as there are people who say they can't use a diesel product that has SN or something after it, so in some cases they may use the same formulation and...

Re: Mystery part on my throttle system
Seth, If your car is a 110HP PG (automatic) you have what is called the "oddball" A/C engine. I had one in my 66 4 door, A/C, 110HP, PG (confirming they did exist). Bob Helt wrote an article (see attached) that in about May of 1965 the 110HP engines with A/C and PG would be "special&q...

Bob, I bought every single Bando Power Ace belt I have from Jeff at California Corvairs. In fact every time I make a order with him I have him toss in a fan belt! I have way to many of them! LOL and like Jeff said! His Price is the best deal in town! :tu: Good to know. SO -- Jeff, do you still have...

"but someone said Jeff at California Corvair could not get them. A club member told me he buys them at Grainger Industrial Supply." That's a funny story and completely inaccurate. FYI - At California Corvair Parts we sell our correct fan belts every day for $10.00 each. The best price out...

Re: WTB Six NOS LM STD Barrels
I was glad to see folks recommend honing to 0.003" over the TRW piston diameter. For many years folks insisted on using the TRW sheet spec. of 0.0015" for total clearance. Due to "semantics" it was 0.0015" for EACH SIDE or total 0.0030". I was lucky and questioned this ...

Re: Seat Foam suppliers
Molded seat buns are pricey, often as much as the seat covers. I got a set of fronts from Summit for $160 in Jan 2023 with free ship. Same ones are now $216: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/OER-SF101PR It probably helps that my '67 Monza's "Strato-back" bucket seats uses the same buns ...
