I once had someone with the timing mark moving all over the place --- he had the "pickup sensor" of the timing light on the coil wire, not the #1 plug wire.

I'd suggest getting the cross shaft as it is different. Shaft has serrated/knurled area so cross shaft lever (tab) will not slip.
