Re: 1966 vs 1965 4 speed input shaft interchange?
I just went through allot of trans work on my 66. I had to pull it apart a couple times because the 3rd / 4th gear shifter fork dropped while putting on the cover plate. This is a real pain to get right. You need to use real heavy grease to hold them up in place during assembly. I also put my grease...

Re: Differential leak
<r>Here is an update on my differential leak. Finley got it fixed. I had a couple of shafts so I chose the straightest, checking them in my lathe and dial indicator. Both seemed to be acceptable, the worst being about .004 out. I also replaced the pilot bushing this time. Now the best part, I did us...

Re: Differential leak
Thanks for the reply’s and suggestions. I got the drivetrain out again today and separated the transaxle from the motor. I inspected the through-out bearing snout inside and out for any cracks or problems, all looked good. I removed the input shaft, set it up in a lathe using the drilled centers on ...

Differential leak
I hope you can help with my problem. My car is a 1966 Corsa , 4 speed and I have just recently replaced the differential pinon seal 3 times now and it still leaks ‘allot”. This is the quarter size seal that goes inside the through-out bearing snout , C495. Pulling this drivetrain is allot of work. I...

Re: Transmission stuck
I'm going through some tranny issues myself. I do have a couple early 4 speed transaxles that I'm not going to use if that helps. Let me know where you are if you're interested, I'm in Delaware. Mark

Re: LM shifter question
I’ve removed the transaxle again. I do believe the 3rd 4th shift fork fell down and was not engaged with the cover. Friday I will try again to get it on with both forks engaged. I’m in Dover DE if anyone close wants to check it out. I have used grease to hold the forks in place before with “OK” resu...

Re: LM shifter question
I have been told it is possible but much more dangerous and greater chanced of breaking parts. Very little extra work to drop the entire thing.

Re: LM shifter question
I did use the grease to set the forks. The only thing I can think is the 3rd /4th fork slipped and rotated out of the way. The shifter feels like I have the gears but I don’t. I just cannot help but think if the fork was not connected it would jamb up in the trans. I have driven the car up and down ...

LM shifter question
I am hoping someone out there can shed some light on my problem. My car is a 66 Corvair, 6 bolt Saginaw 4 speed transmission. The car had a 3 speed in it when I got it and I just switched it to the 4 speed. The 3-speed worked fine but the shifter was sloppy so I rebuilt the shifter tube with Clark’s...

Re: LM shifter question
Thanks for the quick reply's. I have already rebuilt the shift tube with the bronze bushings, I have adjustable reams so I got a real nice finish fit. They do take a little work for a proper fit. So it sounds like the 3 speed shifter will work I just need to fine tune the transmission end adjustment...

LM shifter question
My car is a 66 that had a 3 speed transmission. I recently replaced the 3 speed with a correct 66 4 speed. That all went well, it seems to shift OK first through forth, but I cannot get reverse. I thought the actual shifter was the same, 3 speed and 4 speed but I was just told that they are differen...

Re: Let's see them wheels
I just put my 14" torque thrust wheels on the driver's side of the car. The cars still on the lift and still apart. I should have taken a few pictures. With the 3 3/8" backspace and 190 70R 14 tires they extend out 1 1/2" to 1 5/8" further than the stock 13" wheels and tires...

Re: Let's see them wheels
I've got a question on the wheel backset. The stock wheels appear to have a 4 3/8" backset. Bolt pattern measured to the back edge of the rim. I have a nice set of vintage Torque Thrust wheels, 14" with a backset of 3 3/8". I have not put them on the car yet, the cars apart currently,...

steering wheels
Steering wheel question. My car is a 66 Corsa conv. I do have a factory "sport" wheel from a 64 Spyder. The imitation wood steering wheel. I have the wheel and the "hub" the wheel is screwed to. Is this optional steering wheel for the 64 the same as what would have been offered f...
