Re: Electric washer pump
Nice! I am keeping my car mostly stock, but I find some of these little changes a big help for such an old car.

Re: 3.0 liter Corvair Buggy motor with possible ring issues
No one has mentioned the head. You may be pulling a lot of oil past the valves. The intake valves should have an oil seal on them, the exhaust don't. If the seals are there and in good shape I would pull the valve springs off those two cylinders and check for valve stem clearance. Put a dial indicat...

Re: Heater fan motor replacement.
In response to the original question: replacing the fan motor is not hard. Jack up the rear of the car Remove the right rear tire Disconnect the hot air hose from the right side of the engine Undo the screws holding the fan in place and drop it out. Remove the power wire. Transfer the old squirrel c...

Re: Frocking AC car glove box
Thanks for the compliment. Oh goodness. It is flocking , sorry my typo. I don't know how durable it is since I just performed the flocking. I originally bought it for another project that I will show everyone if it turns out OK. I realized it could also be used on the glove box. Time will tell I gue...

Frocking AC car glove box
This is an easy project that adds a little more originality to an AC LM glove box. I have a 1965 with factory air. So it has a big evaporator under the glove box. Therefore, the glove box is different from the standard one. I purchased a replacement two piece glove box made in ABS plastic. It is shi...

Re: Hard to Get Spyder into First or Second Gear
Two things come to mind. Since you replaced the shift coupler (rubber bushed connector) we can assume it is solid. But the possibility exists that the coupling pin from the shift coupler to the transmission shift shaft is worn out or the hole in the shift shaft is worn out. Too much slop there would...

Re: Electric washer pump
Thanks! I had some spare sheet metal lying around to make the bracket. You can also pick up some conveniently from HomeDepot. And if you didn't see it, I got the idea from the Auto Anatomy youtube channel. He has been going through his late model Corvair doing all the things everyone has to do on an...

Re: Push rod tubes leaking... again
Or, you can make the mistake I made and put them in backwards. They will be ok for a little bit then vibrate loose and leak. Be sure the wide flange/shoulder on the end of the push rod tube is on the head side. You mentioned that the tubes are loose. If you install them with the wide flange/shoulder...

Re: Electric washer pump
My objection to the stock pump is the 4 squirter cycle can have a wiper blade dragging on dry glass. In my restoration I have kept my car stock, but I am not a slave to it by making some "improvements". I'm glad you have good luck with stock pump. I have the system on my 68 elcamino and ne...

Re: Air Conditioning
You can also just upgrade your 10DN by getting an upgrade rebuild kit which is what I did. It stays stock looking and the process to rebuild it is easy. The kit I got from ebay had new diodes, bearings, brushes and windings. It was cheap too.

Electric washer pump
Hi all, I came across a video on youtube where Shawn ofAuto Anatomy (youtube.com/watch?v=PTxRvRJOasl) installed an electric windshield washer pump on his 65. I realized I haven't addressed mine yet on my rebuild and of course it doesn't work. Well the kit to repair the mechanical pump and a new elec...

Re: Power glide to 4 speed conversion
I converted a 1965 PG car to a 4 speed and wrote a short list of things I had to do to get it to work. I have included it below if it is helpful to you. 1. Transmission, pressure plate, flywheel, bell housing, clutch disk, clutch to "Z" bar linkage and return spring, flywheel bushing, mayb...

Thanks. I figured it was easier than changing the fan bearing height as some suggested as I didn't want to change the fan belt geometry.

Re: Late model dash ground
I have read about this problem, and I could see how the "ground spider" can be an issue. So I made up a ground wire with ring terminals on each end and attached it to the spider at one of the gauges and found another screw into the dash frame to secure it to ground. I haven't had any issue...

Re: Reducing the gap, stock cooling fan
All of this talk about the large gap between the fan blade and the housing degrading the efficiency got me to thinking. Some of the solutions looked kind of complicated to me so I decided to do something a little different. I have a spare 140 top shroud so I took a 1/8" x 3/4" steel strap ...
