Re: Lack of power while cold engine
Many thanks for your help. Actually, I think the upper level should be at the upper '0'. I found a documentation written by Bob Ballew (don't know who is he) talking about powerglide transmission. You can find it if you type 'corsa powerglide manual' on google (first result). Page 11, there is a dra...

Re: Lack of power while cold engine
Hi guys! After having investigated on topics you suggested, conclusion is the issue probably came because of me. The problem has never happened again since I opended this post (it happened twice this day, and only this day). Basically, I think I just did not push the throttle pedal before starting u...

Re: Lack of power while cold engine
Hi guys! I have not driven my car since I wrote those last messages on this post, but I tried to have a look on the choke system on yesterday evening. I removed the air box, in order to have a full view on the carbs. What i saw: Cold choke plate was partially closed (engine cold and off). So I tried...

Re: Lack of power while cold engine
Did this problem just suddenly start? Are you running stock (original type) points and condenser? Can / have you checked timing? Dennis Yes it did. Last time I used the car (on June 4th) everything worked fine. Everything is stock on the car, except carbs linkage: I only use 2 carbs over 4, but it ...

Re: Lack of power while cold engine
Guessing you have the 4 1 barrel carbs? Try this: when it's cold, pop the hood, make a visual note of the position of the choke rods (small rods coming vertically out of the cylinder head and connecting to an arm on top of the carb). Now that you've noted the position, take your hand and slightly c...

Re: Lack of power while cold engine
To set, or position the "automatic" choke, it is necessary to depress the gas pedal one time to allow the fast idle cams to move into position. Depressing the gas pedal allows the cold choke spring pressure to move into position, when the throttle linkage is momentarily moved out of the w...

Lack of power while cold engine
Hi guys ! I haven't posted any message since I introduced my French '66 4-door 140HP Corvair. I still haven't replaced my valve stem seals yet but I keep on driving my car and everything look to work fine. Usually, I try to start the car up at least once a month, and it goes well each time. Last Sat...

Re: French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
Thanks 66vairguy for this extra information. Actually, I was already aware of this hose: I remember I changed it when I bought the car because it failed. Indeed, gear changes were not working well. But I don't remember if there were any oil leaks inside, coming from the modulator. Easy to see, that ...

Re: French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
Alright, so I can order this seal. I was not sure if this one was made for bearing or not... Now it's 100% clear, I can complete my order. I took an appointment to make the car repaired (don't have time enough to do it myself those last times) for 29th Nov... Long time! Hope he will be able to make ...

Re: French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
Thank you very much for your explanations: that's much clearer in my mind. I think I've got it all. Regarding the bearings, I've found the correct references, but for the seal I'm not sure. For once, I'd like to try another supplier (Rockauto) and not asking Clark's as I've always used to do. Do you...

Re: French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
Honestly, after doing sone researches myself, I can't find the difference between inner bearings and outer bearings. Can't find any schema on the Internet. I'm really surprised to be able to bake off the bearing I was talking about (the one I removed for changing the brake cylinder) without any tool...

Re: French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
That's really intesresting to read all that. That's understood regarding the lead substitute, I won't do anymore I promise! :nono: Regarding my brakes, I changed my rubber brake hoses like 2 years ago when I bought the car so I don't think the issue comes from this side. My brake shoes don't look so...

Re: French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
The Corvair engine ONLY has valve stem seals on the intake valves. If the oil is changed at 3,000 kilometer (about 2,000 miles) intervals the engine should go 80,000 to 120,000 miles before a rebuild. It uses any modern car motor oil at 10W30. Smoking on takeoff after idling does suggest intake val...

Re: French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
Many thanks guys for your warm welcome! I'm pretty impressed that you know more about my car than me  I knew this combination model was quite rare in the EU but I'm really surprised to read it's also in the US... Can't believe a similar model could have been sold at more than 20,000$! Anyway...

French owner introduction - 1966 4-doors Corvair
Hi guys! I'm doing my introduction right now as a new member of this forum. I'm from France, living close to Versailles (former Kings of France main city) and I own a 1966 140HP 4-doors Corvair. Corvair are really uncommon cars here in France and a very few are seen in car shows. Mine was sold in Fr...
