Re: custom louvered lower tins?

  Looking at the original question, I have never found the engine cooling system — as originally designed by GM — to be inadequate. As long as the upper sheet metal shrouds are intact and complete, the spark plug boots are properly installed and provide a good seal, and the heater/defr...

Re: custom louvered lower tins?

I will add that once at a Corvair show the show area was dry and unusually dusty. A fellow came in with NO lower shrouds and as he drove past the parked show cars a huge cloud of dust blew from under the rear of his car leaving a coat of dust on all the parked show cars. That almost ended ended up ...

Re: custom louvered lower tins?

Over the years many have claimed that removing the lower shrouds helps cooling. Of course NONE of these claims are backed up by measuring head temperatures, except by the Corsa gauge which I know from experience reads cooler with the lower shrouds off, but the head temperature isn't much lower. Par...

custom louvered lower tins?

as the title states, has anyone ever tried making louvered lower tins? the louvers would face toward the back of the car and hopefully help cooling.

Re: odd interior parts/decoration

Most people just install carpet on the floors. It is better Quieter) and will not hold as much moisture causing rust out as the old rubber mats did. rubber carpet would indeed be really hard to find. even if someone had some NOS in a box there is a high likely hood that it would be dry rotted and n...

Re: pulley replacement. how to?

at that point i might as well jack the rear of the car up and drop the whole motor out... would make cleaning it easier. there is a LOT of built up aluminium corrosion, the rotor wont even come off the dizzy. the points arent corroded though... which is odd. if the whole thing is out i can paint ev...

odd interior parts/decoration

20220911_135756.jpg This is a base model 1963 Corvair 500. it doesn't even have reverse lights, or a radio. the interior has a strange vertical stripe on the door panels. there used to be a gray vinyl floor, which i have been looking for without any luck of locating new front vinyl. i've never seen...

Re: pulley replacement. how to?

my car is the base engine. 80 horse. the other corvair (ive changed my thoughts to attempt to fix it from my last post) has perfect pulleys but its a 150 turbo. i wish i had the oil bath instead of the paper filters. but i will make do, i also need a set of carbs as mine are locked up tight.
