Re: Fast XR700 E-Ignition Questions
Assuming you're working on your '68, the terminal in question is a Packard "Twin-Lok" or Twin-Lock" terminal...
Yes, thanks, I found them on the Clark's website and a few others. Interesting design but a bit pricey. I'll just use a heat shrink crimp joint, bypass the connector and go to the ...

Re: Fast XR700 E-Ignition Questions
Some good information in this thread.
I found 8V up by the ignition switch so yes, I think it's a run down battery. It's on a charge now.
For turbos Im guessing the xr3000 might be a better route

Re: Fast XR700 E-Ignition Questions
I found the resistance wire in the main engine compartment plug. I will depin it and pin in a fresh wire. Hopefully I can find the right terminals on Amazon or Clark's. Oddly, I only see 8-9 volts coming out of the starter solenoid posts when in start position. I'll trace back to the ignition switch ...

Re: Fast XR700 E-Ignition Questions
NO --- The XR-700 RED wire is to supply power to the box. You do NOT want to limit power with a resistor. The XR-700 originally had a robust power circuit (haven't looked at the circuit in decades) so connecting the RED power wire to the coil "+" lead was O.K. (and easy) but the better method is ...

Re: Fast XR700 E-Ignition Questions
I'm rewiring a previously installed xr700. Can I put a ballast resistance between the coil and the xr700 (red arrow) instead of before the coil? I figure this will give the xr700 the voltage it wants without reducing spark. Here some of the details of my '68 Monza:

Re: Ignition switch labels?
OK, thanks. I'll label my brown wire ACC and leave the last wire (bottom most position) unlabeled for now. I think it is the equivalent to the black wire you mentioned. I'll try to hook everything up without melting the heat shrink first so I can test voltage coming out of the wires. Once that is ...

Ignition switch labels?
I'm re-wiring some melted wires on my '68 and would like to label the wires going into the ignition switch before I heat shrink them. My ignition switch has 5 wires (not 6 like a '68 should) and I don't really know what's what. I've spend hours looking at '65 wiring diagram and '68 supplement wiring ...

Re: 1st post, 1968 Corvair
Thank very much, vairguy. I have very little knowledge on performance engines so your advice is greatly appreciated. I will definitely check the valves before driving it too much and it'll hopefully be obvious if they are stock or iski springs. For the wiring,

Cool! I didn't know that. I really have come to appreciate all the unique Corvair powered vehicles and innovations Chevy made in that historic decade.

Thanks! I've been working in that general direction! Only burnt the wires 3 times so far! I'll get there somehow

I've used this and Corvair Center a lot since getting my Corvair so I thought it time to introduce myself and the car. I'm in Pearland, TX and inherited my stepfather's Corvair in the Spring of '22.
