Congratulations Dennis! Great work over the last year to get it back on the road. The 3rd time (in this case Dennis #3) is a charm.
Bet the maiden voyage was a thrill with the top down!

Re: John’s 65 sedan
I’ve restored all of the window mechanisms. Once installed, I’ll grease the tracks. I moved on to restoring the parking brake assembly. My original worked but was completely rusted. I decided to harvest the one from the donor and use it. After complete disassembly, media blasting, primer/paint, and ...

Re: New Corvair owner
:welcome2: If you’re planning on having a body shop repair the rust and paint the car, there could be significant lead time prior to the car getting into the shop. Check around if you haven’t already. Mine’s in the shop now and it was about 6 months before it got in. (Had to schedule it in and wait)...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Started cleaning up and repairing the window scissors. I started with the drivers rear side. I cleaned up the old grease with gasoline and a brush . One of the rollers was cracked badly so I replaced it. The roller rivet worked better on the scissors as the steel is thicker. No need to cut with the ...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Spent a few hours today rebuilding the rear windows. I went to the length of replacing all of the vertical rollers on the window brackets along with the pieces of rubber between the brackets and the glass. The Clark’s rollers definitely are not as let’s say “tight” as the original ones. Due to toler...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
:ty: Thanks! I do have sets of door latches in my collection of spare doors; however, I might wait until I get the car back and pull the latches from the doors on the car. :dontknow: Meanwhile, previously, I ordered the replacement rollers for the window mechanisms from Clark’s. They’re pricey at $5...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
I agree Dennis. Folks will definitely find great help and information here on the forum. :my02: Tonight I rebuilt the driver’s side front window. It went much easier as I had a second set of hands to hold the channel during installation. Same process…mark the edges of the channel on the glass, separ...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Hey there 69vairluvr. I hope my thread will provide you the needed inspiration to take on your Corvair rebuild. I’ve cut my car down to the frame and have replaced every body panel all the way around, including the front subframe. I’d recommend starting a thread in either the introduction section or...

Re: Heater Fumes Let's Get Real
Joining the conversation late. I’ve attached a photo of my engine that sat for 30 years, then ran. A good example of “Fumes…let’s get real!” Some serious blow-by. When running, the fumes pumped out of the tube and were sucked right back into the fan. Better off tying the tube back into the air intak...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
I made a trip back to the body shop yesterday. My son hit a deer with his vehicle and we needed some assistance with getting things straightened out and the passenger side door open. While there, I was able to get a few more photos as the progress continues… The car is now all in top coat primer wit...

Re: "The Rocker" 1966 Monza Convertible 110 PG
I agree that the car appears too nice to neglect. It seems from the pictures shown that it’s worth repairing. I’m happy to advise, and with help from the folks here on the forum, you should be able to do this. My first advice is have a vision of the goal. Be patient and confident you can do it. Rega...

Re: "The Rocker" 1966 Monza Convertible 110 PG
A repair shop will likely end up being some kind of an antique car restoration shop. Around my way, body shops won’t do rust repair. Get an estimate. My rocker restorations took me many hours. Cutting, bending, trimming, welding, clamping and aligning, grinding, and outright fabrication. My rough gu...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Wow! That’s Hilarious! :rolling: At least mine drug out of the woods in one piece and I had the engine running after a week. Probably because it’s a Sedan! :workout: Call me crazy for restoring mine :banghead: , but that green coupe is a pile of scrap metal! Yeah, if that would have happened to my c...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
The wood block is certainly a good idea. I’ll give it a go when I’m rebuilding the front windows. Thanks for the good advice! :tu: I’ve attached the Clark’s rollers. Kind of pricey, but hey it’s needed and essential to making the windows track smoothly. In the catalog on page 227. I had from my old ...
