if the car sat a long time and is dumping fuel, you may want to check the carb floats. The brass floats are starting to fail more frequently these days.

a bunch of those out there. I used one on my RV. They work well but the valve caps are clunky and ugly.

Re: LM kick panel vent grill removal
Super duper. Thanks guys. I obviously had them off to paint them 2 years ago. But I couldn't remember how I took them off so I didn't want to scratch the paint or damage anything.

LM kick panel vent grill removal
Hey all.
Can anyone remind me how the kick panel louver trim grill comes off. I know it snaps off, but I'm not sure if I should pull from the front of the grill or the back, or does it matter?
Anyone have a pic of the back of that grill so I can see the clips?
Thanks!

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
I personally like the FAST XR-700. Really easy drop in, and works with the stock coil & ballast resistor.

Well that looks like a fun project! Big fan of the stripe.
What color is it? It looks like Glacier Gray.

Re: Quick carb question fast idle
You definitely need to have the vacuum advance disconnected and plugged to set the idle and the timing. I believe also that the distributor will start to advance without the vacuum somewhere around 900rpm making your idle and timing even more difficult to set. (I may be wrong about this, please ...

Re: Source for new carb floats?
I am not mad at Clark's for this at all. I'm sure that they have no idea these floats are faulty in several different ways. If it was a known problem I'm pretty sure we'd see it on the forums or the FB pages. My guess is that new floats from Clarks are not a very big seller. (nor is slate vinyl, but ...

Here are more pics. SGCAM_20240705_145130306.jpg In this one, you can see the Clark's float on the left and the stock one on the right. SGCAM_20240705_154046953.jpg Here I am suspending the original float where the pin would go through to emulate the height in a bowl full of fuel. SGCAM_20240705 ...

Re: Source for new carb floats?
I want to start by saying that I have not yet contacted Clark's about this issue. I will be calling them Monday morning, I have no doubt that we will be able to come to some conclusion. They have proven to be a good company to me. For a couple months now, I have been battling flooding carbs on my ...

Re: Quick carb question fast idle
It's pretty easy to see if your off the fast idle cam when the choke's are fully open. You need to goose the throttle to get the cams to release. Anyhow, if you are completely off the cam visually, and still can't get the idle low, look for a vacuum leak or play in the throttle shafts (which I'll ...

Source for new carb floats?
Other than the obvious, is there a source for new carb floats? Maybe something plastic, or from a different carb that fits?

Adjusting carb float spring
I've been battling flooding carbs on my 140 for a few months now. I initially found two of the orig floats were full of gas. Purchased 4 new floats from Clarks and re-assembled. Ran for a day and flooded again. Found one of the new floats was full of gas because the pinhole in the side of the float ...

Re: Will a good brass carb float still bubble in hot water?
Yep. That's exactly what is happening Richard. The water, when close to boiling will make bubbles appear on the brass. Slightly cooler water (200*f) will not do this, but will show all the actual holes. I was able to solder up the pinhole in the side of the float, test, and reassemble. I do hate ...
