Re: 1966 Corsa Convertible
The harmonic dampeners will help reduce the cowl shake (shimmy) when you drive over things like railroad track and uneven disturbances in the road. It's worse when the top is down. I could notice it when I had my fingers resting between the vent window frame and the windshield frame and feel the gap...

Re: 66 monza
I once had State Farm. Same here. Kicked State Farm to the curb after being a loyal customer (house and vehicles) for over 38 years when they decided to sneak a single sentence into my policy at renewal time that significantly decreased my home coverage. Yes, I read all the fine print on those poli...

Seems a reasonable place to start with both issues.

Re: New Corvair owner from Switzerland
Welcome! I have friends in the town of Wattwil and we have gone on holiday there several times. Beautiful country but my friends drive a BMW, no Corvairs.

Re: Coil input voltage
Here's the Cliff Notes version of what Brad said...reading the voltage at the coil is not that accurate because of all the normal things that can be in play. It is normal to get full voltage under cranking conditions and lower voltage under engine running conditions. The fiberglass cloth covered res...

Re: 4 speed 1965 monza transmission
Any 64 or 65 4-speed should fit. You should post your budget and location and whether you are looking for a used functional unit bargain or a rebuilt box. Some people are okay with bolting up an unknown $200 tranny and seeing what they get but other want no surprises and only want to do the job once...

Re: First V-8 Corvair Ever?
It is far from being the first V8 Corvair and the author likely knew that but hey, gotcha headlines are what bring in the readers. A Hot Rod magazine published in Oct 1964 showed a 62 coupe with a rear V8 conversion using a reversed Corvette engine by Skip Huth. The car in the photo above is a 62 if...

Re: convertible top questions...
I don't have any early model experience with power tops but a 4th wire makes no sense to me. You would either need one hot wire and two grounds or two hot wires and one ground to have a properly reversible DC motor. Every photo of Corvair power top motors I could find online only show three wires.

Re: Question About Heat
Is the Corvair capable of staying cool in the hot summer air of Oklahoma? A properly maintained Corvair engine has no issue with any heat you can throw at it here in Phoenix. They do get hotter in the summer but not enough to concern me. I drove most of last summer in a 66 with the A/C running whic...

Articles like that are nothing more than click bait to get advertising revenue for a client. As soon as you see a webpage that makes you click endlessly from one page to yet another and yet another to see just a few more sentences or one more photo, all they are doing is collecting click data to gen...

Re: 65 140 motor carbs
Those are Grose jets but I don't think they are worth the trouble since I've been driving mostly 140 (4 carb) engines since 1977 and never used anything but the typical fuel inlet valves in all my carbs. It seems like the float spring would work with either type of inlet valve but I don't have a Cla...

Re: Need a Carb Magician
"Loading up"? You mean running way too rich? Besides comments above, a partially closed choke plate can also cause a mix that is way too rich. A vacuum leak is not good but will usually cause a lean condition. Stumbling? If it's running way too rich or loaded up then don't chase this issue...

Re: elec. fuel pumps
Some people install an electric pump to help with starting and priming the mechanical pump after long-term storage. They only run the e-pump long enough to fill the fuel bowls and you must use a pump that will pass fuel when it is not running so the fuel will still flow to the mechanical pump. I don...
