Re: Stuck mushroom? push rod.
That mushroomed rod can stay in there as long as you have gutted the innards of the mechanical pump first. It will make a clicking sound each revolution when it doesn't have the fuel pump diaphragm spring pushing down on it though. If you want to stop that clicking without pull the whole rear housin...

Re: 65 Corsa Windshield
DW000659 or DW659T I install my own glass and have had good luck finding a local, small-sized, mobile glass installer on Craigslist or FB and ask them to buy me a DW000659 windshield for me. I meet them nearby to complete the sale and make sure to tell them I'll pay cash if they can help me out. Abo...

Re: Max oil temp ?
If we are still discussing oil temps, in the summer, I often see 260F measuring at the point where oil enters the filter. That seems pretty common for me when ambient temps are around 100-110F. This maximum only happens after a good freeway run while I'm sitting idling on the exit ramp waiting at a ...

Re: Oil Pressure Issue at startup
I won't be doing any kind of driving for quite a while. Let's hope I have real update before two months. :dontknow: Wow! Hope you can get back to tinkering and driving without more delay than expected with you injury. I'm coming back to this thread after many more posts were added but I wondered ab...

Re: Highest BaT Sale Price for a Corvair Ever...$43K
$1000 more than the green 69 vert that sold last fall. Very few restored Corvairs are at this quality point. Mine aren't even close. Someone on FB commented about this auction and said there is still money to be made by buying and restoring Corvairs to this level but I say no way. I know of two LM C...

Re: America, Your Cars Are Getting Old
Business as usual in our household. I've never bought a new car nor paid more than $9000 for any vehicle I've ever owned. Our newest vehicle is 18-years old and Cathy drives that one. The car I drive the most is over 37 years old.

Re: Handling Fuel to Replace Fuel Tank in 1965-1969
I do this procedure outdoors if at all possible and always have a garden hose turned on and ready to spray within my reach as well as an ABC extinguisher. Old, stale gas is hard to ignite but fresh fuel can be quite dangerous. BTW, this is posted in the Classified section under "Vehicles for Sa...

Re: Oil Pressure Issue at startup
This is a very cheap gauge so I do not know how accurate it is. I have a 0-15psi gauge somewhere I will find it and see what it says. What is the sender minimum pressure supposed to be? Usually will trigger below 4-5 PSI but factory switches were set to 3 PSI from my understanding. I find these swi...

Re: Oil Pressure Issue at startup
Have you calibrated your gauge? I'll bet your engine is idling hot at 5-6 PSI but that the gauge just won't read that low accurately. I check my gauges when I'm trying to read any pressures in the 0-10 PSI range. On the workbench, I rig up an oil pressure gauge in parallel with a sphygmomanometer (b...

Re: Info wanted: 1965 frunk lid CORVAIR placement
This pic shows a sheet of copy paper lined up at the LF hood corner and flush with the front edge. I can scan this as a pdf tomorrow at work and then send it as a pdf template that you could print at full scale to use. I didn't note it on the paper but the 4.5" and 8-7/16" dimension lines ...

None of my Corvairs have frunks but I can get you the dimensions later tonight if no one else posts the info before I get to measuring.

Re: Loose Deep Valve Seats
Only Tom K. could ask $7900 for a rebuilt engine that didn't have deep seats and get away with it. Anyone other seller here would have been roasted alive for omitting that modification on an expensive, performance rebuild. Just sayin'. I've been driving Corvairs since 1977 and have never dropped a ...

Re: Oil Pressure Issue at startup
I'll add that at one time many said you should "stretch" the oil pressure regulator spring on an old engine since they loose tension. THAT IS NOT CORRECT! I 100% agree that it is not correct to stretch that spring but that's due to a reason you don't mention. Stretching that spring does a...

Re: CCLARK'S SMALL CHROME AIR CLEANERS
Why can't people try to stick to answering the original question. In this instance a better way of mounting the Clark air filters! I did a similar trick with shorter exhaust pipe couplers and notched them so I would not need to make any changes to the carb tops. Now that I have a 3D printer that ca...
