two tone paint job

Post by reedbecky »

I'm tossing around the idea of repainting my '66 with a two tone motif with a black hood and decklid and either the original cream or silver for the sides. Any pics out there with this setup? My son came up with this idea and it might not look half bad. My paint job on the car is original and definitely worn out and he got the idea afterlooking at pictures of a '68 Hurst Olds. Any ideas on this????

The late model Fitch Sprints had a two tone paint theme with a black hood and fender tops and a black roof.

IMHO - Just a black hood and deck-lid won't do anything to enhance the Corvairs body lines and may even look like you're just waiting to get it painted. :02:

Thanks for the input on this. My son thought it would be cool since my '66 Monza is a ragtop with a black top and interior. I'll still mull over the idea for a while. I've got a gallon or so of black paint left over from a previous project that I was wanting to use on something, but I am not sure if I want to completely take the car apart in order to change the color of the car. Again thanks for the info, I am very glad I joined up with this forum since most people around here never even heard of a Corvair!!!!!

In thinking about body lines and two tone...what about bringing the top color down to the belt line. I think it may be real nice look particularly with a stock looking car with hubcaps. I'd say black over silver...better get that body super straight though!
Let us know and anyone out there have two tone pics with transition at the belt line?
