has anyone mounted hood scoops on a late model other than the ones sold from clarks corvair? and if so do you have any pics. and where did you get the scoops?

There are many universal type scoops. Check out ebay for a start . Many are held on with double sided tape.

Is it going to be functional or just for looks.

for function. i have the clarks scoop mounted. but i would like bigger but having a hard time finding cowl scoops without the crease down the center like most hoods have

Check with Michael Le Veque, He did have a complete deck lid like bork81's.

Now you did it.... I've been wanting to experiment with hood scoops for a long time..... just now I looked at the summit racing hood scoops link and it suddenly occurred to me.... I've got an extra engine lid now!

Looks like I'll be doing some of that experimenting this year =)

Unsafe's decklid is the "Yenko" style one. I thought they were still available but looked and can't find it. This decklid has the provision for the flip up scoops and also has the spoiler molded right in. They are typically "race-weight" fiberglass or carbon fiber so they are flimsy, but I've seen people reinforce them.

Mine is the carbon fiber version made by Bruce Carlton. It has no bracing but is not flimsy at all. It only weighs about 5 lbs but is so rigid that you can hold by one corner and it won't flex at all. Some of the unbraced fiberglass units are very flimsy tho.

As I understand it there is very little air pressure at the intake grill under the back window but there is some pressure where the Yenko flaps are located. Much more air in front of the windshield or at the headlights.

I thought this was a good questionWELL I QUESS I HAVE TO FEST UP My younger days vair had a cuda scoop, function ram air. I did play with mopar hoody scoops as a kid. Times change. I agree this time with Grymm's , you all did it. Here is a six pack scoop style that is going on the project car: its nothing new in theories, I am narrowing the engine compartment of air input, high volume, with a rad 15" or 16" cooling fan mounted under the scoop, some plumbing and see where it goes. this scoop is low and not goddy. Left over fiberglass from my strip canoe will mold the scoop nicely on the deck , wt is not a issue with me, I don't race, I enjoy now. I have even played with a Y style scoop at the windshield to the rear, that was only in drawing, ducting and or boost fan in line. Compress air has even come up in thoughts or nitress. We have our thoughts and I always welcome others than make a choice. Is this crazy or wrong or even sugguestions. I am not any comparison in experience to you guys but go ahead & hit me. Due to the huge amount of rain we get in N/E England, I decided side scoops would be best for me

i have a badly dented front hood for a LM and have the idea to fabricate a 1.75inch Cowl hood from a camaro onto the hood.

just to prank those that still don't relise at car shows the engine is in the back of corvair's.

how about one like this...

I like that style, almost the same style I had on my corsa as a kid but was facing to the rear with flames painted on the rear deck... it was more streamlined yet still functioned... the scoop I choose up above, is lower and much wider , got from J.C.Witney....covers most of the deck, being a mopar six pack style..... it will have a hi vol puller fan mounted under the hood..... I think the hood scoops look well and like how Mart did them side vents.... really cool.... CG
