corvair on full custom garage

Post by sparrow »

Ian did a few mods on an LM last night on the motor trend network. He added some 1st gen camaro tailights and fabricated a front grill. I liked the front grill. I always thought the nose of an LM needed a little more style, but that's just me.

I would not do any of the mods but I actually liked the tail light mod. Kinda made sense with the whole back rectangles going on. The grill could be good but looking at it, the center line of the grill looks off. I have seen some grilles done that look really good even though not really functional in some cases. I didnt like the button to replace the door knob look. Should have just done the full shaved look. Still cool to see a Corvair on a car show. I just hope the kid in the show liked the mods.

Put me in the "I don't like either" camp. I think the rectangle taillights look dumb. The grill just looks out of place with the headlight trim.

The Camaro taillight install in a Corvair was first done decades ago by a fellow who started a business Wisconsin. He advertised he would build custom LM Corvairs called the "Cavalier by Solar Automotive" with modifications per the buyers request.

Most of the cars he built had Camaro taillights so the was a signature tell. A couple decades ago a fellow came to our club meeting with one of those cars he was trying to sell - Camaro taillights and other modifications. The guy was a "flipper" just looking for a buyer and only showed up twice.

There were posts on here about the Solar Cavalier. I bet Brad has more information.
